the spark plug removal tool got a rubber internal part to protect the ceramic insulator of the plug and i think it holds the plug in once it is out of the threading... helps when the plug is hot or in a deep location.
as for gapping you should have a feller, get the blade marked 0.42 or whatever recommended for your car and make sure the gap between the +ve and -ve is exactly the same size as the blade by inserting the blade in the gap... adjust the gap as needed (increade or decreas gap till the blade just fits in).

if the gap is too big then tap on the -ve electrode (negative electrode) till it bends in a little and reduce the gap... don't tap too much and keep checking the gap every couple of taps.kinkyllama wrote:How do you adjust the gap... and what ve?
if the gap is too small then use a small flat end screw driver to open the gap... watch out not to damave the +ve electrode (positive elecrtode) in the process... check the gap with the feeler and adjust as needed.
as for the -ve and +ve electrodes...
i hope this helps

Now waht about the socket not fitting all the way down the hole? we have like 5 or 6 and they are all the same size... none fit. Is there going to be one at the autostore that does fit?

The plug socket, is a long socket with thin walls that will allow the plug to fit inside while going down into the hole in the valve cover.
The rubber thing inside the socket is what grips the plug after the plug has been unscrewed and the threads are no longer holding the plug in place.
If there were no rubber thing inside, as soon as you lift the wrench to get the plug out, the plug would stay down inside the hole and the wrench would just come out.
The rubber thing grips the tip of the plug and allows the plug to be lifted out with the wrench.
I hope I explained this properly.
Any more questions, I'll try to explain.

Ok ... in the Lanos, when you open the hood, you will see a black plastic cover over the valve cover.delphis wrote:ok not to sound like a noob or anything, but where do I find my spark plugs? I went to go and change them last night and couldn't locate. I have a 200 daewoo lanos se 1.6 16v dohc. Thanks!

This is located right at the top in the middle and it is the thing with the silver Daewoo badge and lettering cast into it.
Use a 5mm hex wrench (sometimes called an Allen Key) and remove the 4 hex bolts and lift the cover off.
Under this cover, you will see the spark plug wires and where the rubber boots on the ends of the wires go down into the holes in the valve cover so they can attach to the spark plugs.
