hehe... put my engine back together after cleaning it and its fast again!!!!

cleaned the intire intake mani and looked at the neat little "ventury" vanriable intake runner thingy.. anyways it was all dirty as hell.. went through two cans of carb cleaner

cleaned the injectors, polished the fuel rail (i think i gained like 20 hp just from the polished fuel rail )

put some 4 gage ground wires up and went for a spin...

Fully understand how it feels, even after ya clean your car it feels faster, must be psychological or something lol

but might give that a go with my car, havent really had the chance to get in there and clean everything out..

Bottle of degreaser and carb cleaner should do the trick, what else did you use?

WD40 works well to clean stuff up. So do gas.

Just be carefull not to blow anything up and 9 times out of 10 you'll need a new intake manifold gasket.

engine parts cleanup always makes performance difference.

you see: as time passes, dirt and shit accumilate bit by bit on your intake, spark plugs, TB, etc... and you don't feel the power beeing robbed because it is very little bits stolen from you over long period of time.

when you do clean up any of those parts, the power is restored back so whatever the dirt too in a year the cleanup gets it back in a scrub of a tooth brush and you will feel the difference for sure.

i remember when i cleaned my TB, spark plugs and intake the car felt like it was 10 years younger and was fast as hell... i even empressed one of my friends who has a '99 Lanos just like mine and his car got less Kms than mine yet when he tried my car he said "Damn... your car is lot faster than mine!"... apparently he never cleaned up anything on his car.

most of the dirt and buildups in the TB and intake are from the crank case breather, it keeps on oumping oil vapor into the intake and because oil is heavier than air it condenses on the intake walls and form buildups. it also catches any dirt particles that found its way through the air filter and add up to the buildups.

i think the use of an oil catch can will help prevent such problems... can anyone who have an oil catch can confirm if he has a clean TB and intake?? i mean in comparison with non oil catch can cars... my TB always looks black as hell from the buildups but WD 40 works wonders!

as for washing the car body and stuff... thats purly psychological... i do feel that when i wash the car... hell it even felt faster when i greased the shift stick mounts!

Yes, the catch can will trap these oil resedues and the filter will just blow them all over your nice clean engine bay.

both will prevent the oil vapors from beeing sucked into the intake... very little will pass through the oil catch can into the intake (i can live with that) but none whatsoever can reach the intake if you used the little breather filter.

the only problems with those filters is that the vapors are spread into the engine bay and smeres every thing arround... your engine bay won't be a pretty sight at all.

see the condensation on the TB pully?? in a few weeks your whole engine will look like that.

can you give me more details on How to polish the fuel rail?? if it regaind some of the lost power then for sure i will be willing to do this job especially that i am already going to take off the fuel rail for cleaning the injectors.

well the hp part was a joke.. i did polish it though.. the out side

take some sand paper. like 800 grit and go to town sanding the out side.. once you get all the shitty aluminum off take some 1000 grit and clean it up. then take some metal polish and polish it up, after its all said and done clean it really good and then take some clear coat paint and spray a layer on to keep it from getting dirty

Just cleaned my air intake manifold, fark there was a shitload of oil and crap in there, the car feels/sounds different now, well worth the few hrs of stuffing around

Also i need to replace my spark plugs.. what ones should i get? how will i know what works? Do i have to pick up my fuel filter from the local dealer? ... ive been needing to do all this stuff.
