Development Continues For Chevrolet Lacetti WTC

MONZA , 23 March, 2005 ? Chevrolet Racing continued the development work on the Chevrolet Lacetti WTC on the second day of the two-day FIA WTCC test session at Monza, Italy, but were hampered in their efforts by numerous red flag situations brought about by competitors going off the track. Despite the de facto reduced time on the track, the team managed to find some time gains with all three cars.

?We still have a long way to go, let there be no doubt about it,? said Chevrolet Europe?s Motorsport Manager, Eric N?ve. ?These two days have clearly shown the strength of the World Touring Car Championship. Despite the fact that things might not look on the up and up on the time sheets, we are, however, where we expected to be. For a new manufacturer coming into a World Championship against some very experienced competitors there is no point in doing anything else but take a very conservative start.?

On the track, the drivers tried a few laps giving each other a tow in true NASCAR style, bringing about some time gain on Monza?s famous straight lines. ?Basically, we have had two days in which we amassed as much data as we could,? team manager Mark Busfield explained. ?All three cars ran in different specs throughout the day. They were different on the engine, the brakes, the air intake? We are making good progress on the chassis and brake side, and we?re slowly gaining on the top end speed issue as well, but we?ll have to wait till we?ve analysed all the data to be able to see where exactly we have made what progress and how to quantify and translate it all to the right corrections or alterations to make for the first race.?

The first two races of the 2005 World Touring Car Championship will take place on April 9 th and 10 th at Monza
