Final Gear Ratio

Post by nasser »

My lanos( 1.6) has 3.722 final gear ratio and I am thinking of increasing the top speed by changing the final gear ratio to a small one, let us say 3.000 . Is it posible?

Some info on gear ratios:

there are two types of the D16, wide ratio (lanos 1.4 soch) and medium ratio (1.5 sohc) the service manual doesnt specify wich is fitted to the 1.6 16v since there are 2 versions i asume one is for the normal 1.6 and the Sport model

3rd 1.276
4th 0.892
5th 0.707

D16 medium Ratio
3.545

3.333

4.19

D16 (1.6 16v)

1.952/2.158
1.276/1.478
0.892/1.129
0.707/0.886

Maniac16V....How fast can you get up to in second gear with your F16?

The domestic F16 here in north america only manages just over 85kph (53mph) where as the european F16 is able to hit something like 106kph (66mph)

My Daewoo Lanos seems to have the same ratios as the F16 found domesticly in the Pontiac LeMans but I was wondering about other cars outside of the USA and Canada ( like yours )

I'm interested in an F16 with the european spec gear ratio.

I plan way more power so I want to spread out the gears a little.

May just jump into an F20 or a converted F28....hard to say at this point.

Sorry about the delay...

its seems i have the crappy F16 :?

once i tought i had the euro F16 because some one told me mine came out of an opel kaddet, i talked to my mechanic he told me it came out of his '91 Racer (Pontiac Lemans) so these means its the crappy F16, now i understand my bad 1/4 mile times (16.6), and yes it manages just over 85kph in second gear :cry:

im dissapointed about all this... unfortunally i also have some bad news.

my car is for sale due to some financial problems, things are bad here in my country ALL prices are going up,

on the other hand i found a C20XE (2.0 16v, 150HP) with the F20 8)

im planning on a near future to buy a Lemans and put this engine in

Ok, so you're saying that the F20 orF28 will bolt right up to a nubi 2.0 16v engine?

Yes, the F20 fits with no problems, but the F28 will need a FWD conversion, because this tranny belongs to the Opel calibra/vectra 2.0 16v turbo 4x4 6speed

How hard is it to do a FWD conversion? also where are the Calibra/vectra sold?

Also, what are the chances tha this entire drivetrain will be a direct swap?

From what I've heard most of the Getrag manual transmissions are interchangeable into the Lanos (F16) and Nubria (F20)

Here is the Quaife limited slip conversion from Quaife USA

http://www.quaifeamerica.com/differenti ... f_apps.htm

They state the following application:

GM - Opel Astra / Kadett F16 / F18 / F20 / F28 $1,095.00 USD

Astra = Kadett= Lanos

Another site (european) has LSD's for both the F28 AWD and the F28 FWD.

I was wondering if there is somewhere in the world that has an F28 that is only FWD... from what I've seen all the F28's found in modified Astra's are converted from a 4X4 to a FWD.

It looks like the F28 only existed in the UK/Europe but who knows you might be able to find one in south america... but I wouldn't know where to start looking....I'm only familiar with UK/Europe/North America vehicles.

I wonder if the F28 can be found in Russia... probably cheaper from there.

Ok here's a question: Is the FWD and the AWD F28 the same 6sp tranny with the same gearing?

Also a list of vehicles that it was in would help us out greatly.

Yes the gears are the same... they only thing is the FWD conversion, in fact there is a F28 fwd in stock form.

when Opel lauched the Calibra 4x4, the C20LET-F28 (2.0 16v turbo-6speed) was introduced... in the mean time in europe the battle of the "hot-hatches" was getting better and better, when VW introduced the the golf VR6 no one tought it would be beaten...then the Opel Astra/Kadett Gsi (2.0 16v-c20xe) was in the shadows... but the Opel Kadett TURBO, Opel Astra SUPERBOSS, Opel kadett/astra 200TS was introduced it was a limited edition an it came with the C20LET-f28 (2.0 16v-6speed) FWD... yes diferent names for the same car... that depends of the market.

here's a little list:

Opel Calibra 4x4, Vauxhall/Holden Calibra 4x4
Opel Vectra 4x4, Vauxhall/Holden Vectra 4x4
Opel Kadett-Astra Turbo, Vauxhall/Holden Astra turbo
Opel Kadett-Astra Superboss,
Opel Kadett-Astra 200TS...

Vauxhall=Opel/GM in the UK.
Holden=Opel/GM in Australia.

all these cars have the C20LET-F28

Maniac16V...Great post... I was wondering about the vehicle list myself.

I knew about the Calibra and Vectra 4X4 F28 but I was wondering which cars had the FWD F28... that saves me from searching around...thanks.
