Take off the unnecessary stuff for racing:

Passenger seat
Back seat
Spare tire
Jack
Trunk carpet thingy
4 door panels
Center console
Only amount of gas necessary to racing (maybe 2 gallons or less)

That, I believe will give you about 30-40 LBS weight reduction.

If your serious about racing, or like me, these things have failed to work:

Heater Assembly
Blower
Blower Housing
Evaporator
A/C Lines
Compressor
Compressor Mount
Condensor

This might give you 90-100 LBS or .1 secs faster on the strip.

If you got major cash:

Light Pulleys
Light Intake Manifold
Light Headers
Light Wheels/Tires
Major Body Work.

This might give like 300-400 LBS if taken in the right places. Which will make your car considerably faster and better handling and more gas efficient.

To get the Lanos to below 2000 LBS needs a lot of work, and I'd say without a major redesign, 1300 is damn hard but with a stock engine that would give you a power to weight ratio of 12, damn close or better than Mustang.

The first thing you listed should give you alot more than 30-40lbs reduction.. my passenger seat alone weights 42 lbs.

Before you take out your back seat check track regulations.. at a drag strip near me your required to have a back seat or metal covering the trunk.. b/c of gass' or something

You could go on a diet! LOL
The less the driver weighs is less that has to be moved.

You got 45 LBS Just from your taking out your back seats? Damn, I took mine out, but they weighed maybe a grand total of like 13 LBS. All it is is foam, fabric, and some really thin aluminum as the backing. I'll weigh it again just to test.

It also annoyed me that I could hear the fuel pump working, so they are back in the car until I fabricate a rumble seat.

i was thinking the same thing with the back seats not weighting 45lbs. there is no way they do. the bottom part is just foam and the top part like bosnianlanos said just has a thin sheet of metal. i was actually thinging about ten pounds but i never weighed it to be sure. definately not 45lbs.

For a little extra weight reduction, you could also take out the plastic fender well lining, the head liner, all the plastic interior trim, the carpet, the carpet padding, the door panels and the center console.
