Suzuki Forenza - Possible Airbag Safety Problem

Post by rev320 »

There is an apparent software glitch with the Forenza airbag computer.

Apparently everybody who owns this car has the same issue. According to my dealer, there is a problem that the airbag software will not recognize the presence of a passenger if they get in the vehicle after it has been running a long time. Right now, they don't even have a plan to fix it.

I don't know how long you'd have to wait to get it to happen, but sometimes when I have a passenger I do notice that the Passenger Air Bag Off light is on.

I have filed a complaint with Suzuki.

If you have the problem, I would suggest that you take appropriate action.

I'll post any response if I get one.

I wonder if this affects the Reno, Optra, and Lacceti models as well. I don't think I have a passenger airbag light in my Optra5, so I wouldn't know if this is the case with my car or not.

I have the S model Station Wagon, 2005. The indicator should be right next to the clock display.

I have a 2005 Forenza and I definitely have noticed that. I wasn't aware it was a known problem. I've heard on other cars it was just a matter of weight, ex. It doesn't identify you as a person unless you are over 100lbs. But there have been a few times where the light still says the airbag is off even when there are two people in the seat? Is there anything I can do to help this?

I did notice that my Reno seems to register anyone over 100 pounds so hopefully this issue applies only to a small number of other 'Zukis.

I just brought my Forenza in to Suzuki to get a few things looked at and I asked the mechanic about the light. He didn't admit to any manufacturers problems but he did say there was a switch that allows you to manually turn the airbag on if the light doesnt go off. I have yet to find that switch.... but now I'm worried about my gears. Sometimes I have a problem shifting out of Park, but only then. Does this sound familiar?

Does this happen mainly when parking on hills? If so, make sure you apply your hand brake before you put it in park, it may help.

Nope, no hills in Florida... I could be sitting in my driveway getting ready to go somehwere but my car has a different opinion. heh I just hear a click n it won't move. If i wait like 10 minutes or so I can get it then.
