Need advice on Nubira exhaust

Post by emptynesteacan »

I'd like to upgrade the exhaust system on my 2000 Nubira. The muffler at the end of the car is developing a few rust through holes. I don't want to waste money on the oem restrictive muffler in the near future. On the intake side I've removed the expansion box resonator so that it sucks air from the fender, removed the restrictive plastic from the air box and installed a K&N air filter. I'm not certain which muffler to use. I've heard of Tanabe Medallion and Dragon, but know nothing about them. However, I do not want anything obnoxious. Simply less restrictive with possibly a nice deep sound. Not too expensive, either! How far does $200-$300 go?

I found this on UniqueMotorsports regarding a Lanos:

Exhaust Reducer: There is a spot on the exhaust right after the 2nd CAT where it goes from a 2.5" to 1.75" and has no reducer. I noticed this when I took off the exhaust and there was a half inch ring of black all the way around. I picked up a few reducers at a local autoparts stores and mounted it up.

If this is the same on the Nubira, I definately want to fix this while I'm at it. Are there any websites that have audio samples? I've found a link here for www.aero-turbine.com. The Accord V-6 sample sounds good. I'm assuming that I'll need a 2.5" exhaust? I'd appreciate any advice.

$200-$300 can get you a full cat-back exaust. just go to your local muffler shop and just ask them about different sounds all that. you cna even get mufflers with a silencer tip so if its too loud for you put that on and it'll clear that up. i paid like $180 for my cat-back flowmaster exaust but i knew the manager so he gave me a little deal.

I dont know about that one ... I just could never make myself put something like that on my Lanos ... it looks too much like the mufflers you see on the really riced out Civics.

I got a Borla XR1 muffler for my lanos and it's got a VERY deep rumble. I can only imagine what it would sound like with a 2.0L.

I got a Ractive exhuast (4.5" dented tip, hate the looks) awesome sound.
Will replace it to a new Ractive (3.5" slanted cut tip) will see about the sound. I'm convienced that Ractive is one of the best exhausts ever made.

Stick with Magnaflow or Borla. Great warrenties and they sound great. The ebay ones suck.

I'll find a muffler shop around here and discuss the options with them. Thank you all for the input. Now I won't walk in there a complete idiot. :P

With the stock airbox modifications I've been making, I'm right at 9 seconds 0-60mph with the automatic transmission.

Pretty cool video ;).

@ asam: Regarding ebay mufflers, I assume you mean non-brand mufflers? Because they do sell mufflers like Magnaflow, Borla, Ractive, etc.
