Shift Knob for Lanos
does anyone know how to remove the shift knob on the lanos? or has anyone tried?
I have no personal experience with the manual 'Woos...mine's an auto. But somebody asked that question recently and a fellow Wooite told him that it pops right off with a good tug. I don't know if you've tried that but that's all I know about it. I would like to invite somebody else to verify this before you try it...But if you feel compelled, go right ahead and try. Be careful though.
Cogito ergo sum...

thanks for the info but please see if you can find some more info on it. thanks
Yo JC, i have a 00 Lanos with a manual box. I changed my knob not too long ago and it is a job not for the faint hearted. Ok heres the run down I posted on Yahoo! daewootech:

Subject: My gear knob experience.....
Alrite people, i decided to throw myself in at the deep end and
finally did it! I got a Momo Sphere "S" Aluminium + Chrome + Grey
leather to fit the reverse lock out collar. Normally not imported to
Australia so i was pleased to get it and payed a small fortune
subsequently. BUT back to the point. This is how i got my OEM knob
off (? well sorta destroyed (not that you'll use it again) but its
all good)
1. Spliced seam of the rubber surround with a knife and peeled off
the surround. This left me with a SOLID plastic ball on top of the
shaft.
2. This ball is SOLID plastic, NO screw or ANYTHING! So, the
scientific way was to obtain the hacksaw and get chomping. Sawed one
side off (measured up to where the shaft would be and cut down one
side).
3. Once one side is off you just push off the other side with a bit
of force.
4. Now once i got the knob off in about 1 billion pieces and
countless piles of shavings, it was a snap to put the new baby on.
Keep the OEM spring that springs the collar into the knob, pop the
new knob on top, and then tighten with the allen key provided (or
find one that fits wateva).
And that was it, heart in the mouth a few times with coming close to
scratching trim pieces and almost cutting through the dash, but its
all good cuz it is unscared and looks trick with its new knob. For
the brave it is an easy job.
Just make sure u purchase a knob to accomodate the reverse lock out collar, momo make some, check out the momo website, they are the ones prefixed with a "S" i think.

thanks for the info ubuyau, i might put the momo carbon "S" which also fits the reverse collar. I have a question, the knob itself looks like its covered in the rubber where the gears are shown, can you peel or pull it from the bottom where it meets the collar?oh, since you live in Australia, have you got the chance of seeing or heard the exhaust note of HVE motorsport exhaust?
Yeh the rubber that covers the ball on the top of the OEM knob i sliced off (since i didnt want it any more and it didnt really matter) but if you wanted to keep it i would suggest digging up from underneath near the lock out collar and rolling up to keep it in one piece (i think this might work) and then just roll it back the other way to get it back in shape.
I havent heard the DVE (Daewoo not Hyundai but its the same company so wateva) exhaust on the lanos. I have however heard the HVE Lantra catback and it sounded good and deep (not Honduh farty). It sounded the same as a custom one made up at the local exhaust shop on the same model car. See the thing is that at H/DVE they have done like all the proper testing so its like buying a Mugen catback for a Honda, they WILL increase power. However with a local shop built one (even if they DO mandrel bend it) it doesnt necessarily increase output. Depends on what your after. I just put a stainless muffler on using standard everything else (not a catback since i didnt worry about power just wanted the look and the sound) and it even picked up a bit of power (worse luck LOL you can feel it) but the DVE catback isnt a stainless one.

shif nob for lanos
but the real ? is do i have to take the safety for the reverse
This sounds like my only option.. i'm in australia too, where'd you get the knob from?
Is there NO way to make the gearstick fit normal gearknobs etc?
I was thinking of replacing the physical stick itself with a shorter one with a normal screw-top for gearknobs etc, and at the same time removing the reverse-lock completely. You only shift into first gear from sitting still so as long as you're not a complete idiot-driver you wouldn't really mis-shift into reverse much.
Unless someone has a better way?
