Dash removal is essential for some mods as in replacing how the dials look and putting an after market CD player or for maintenance such as repairing broken A/C controls.
I am going to show the steps for taking off the whole dash up to removing the dials so that this document can be helpful for each and every project that requires taking off the dash or part of it.
Tools: you will need a Philips screwdriver and a flat end screwdriver.
Start by opening the cup holder at the very bottom of the dash then using either of the screw drivers you got pop the H shaped part of the dash that runs on the outside of the radio, It is fixed by metal clips and it should pop right of? sometimes the metal clips fall off so keep an eye while doing that.
Right at the bottom of the A/C control panel there is two Philips screws, take them off and then you can slide the whole control panel to the outside, take care as this panel is still attached by the control wires and those are very fragile so be careful not to bend the unit too much.
Pull the electrical socket out.
Each of the three control wires have a metal ring at its end and a slotted plastic nail inside it, using the flat tip screwdriver pull the ring outside the nail? this is going to be tricky because you don?t have much room to work with and you can?t tilt the unit much.
The wires are fastened by a plastic clip that is integrated to the wire?s end? those clips are the ones that usually break and cause the knobs not to function properly. Tilt the wire to the direction of the clip and away from the wire to remove it, the wire got some kind of a guide that it fits in and that will make it come off, again don?t use much force during the process or you will break the clips, if you already got a broken clip or if you accidentally broke one, use super glue to put it back to the wire?s end.
Take off the power mirror control by pulling it to the outside using the flat end screw driver, if you don?t have power mirror then you have a cup shaped plastic trim instead?insert your four fingers in it then pull it out.
There are six screws holding the dash panel, two right above where the A/C control panel used to be, two under the power mirror control, two on the arc of the gauges?take them all off.
Pull the dash unit forward but not much, it is still attached by the hazard light socket and the clock and the fog light (if you have them).Undo all the sockets that hold the dash first before removing it.
Pull the dash all the way out, maneuver it over the steering wheel and it is all out.
The gauge cluster is held by four screws at its corners, undo all of them.
Tilt the cluster on its face and take off the three sockets at its back.
Slid it all the way out.
Take off the clear plastic cover; it has five clips that need to be pushed past their locking spots.
Take off the black facial panel it also got five clips that need to be pushed past their locking spots.
To put the whole thing back together follow the same steps in reveres
order.
