Automatic 2 5 Speed Swap: Parts List (2000 Leganza)

Post by TrickedStang »

OK, I CANT STAND having an automatic car, so I will be swapping the automatic transmission in my 2000 Leganza in favor of a nice 5 Speed unit. I'll be grabbing the parts from a pick and pull and I need to get a list going of EVERY part needed for the swap. Below is what I can remember off the top of my head, but please add in anything else you know of!

List:

5 Speed Trans (DUH)
5 Speed Bellhousing
Trans Mount
Axels
Pedal Assembly
Cluch/Pressure Plate
Flywheel
Clutch Slave and Master
Shifter and Shifter Trim
Gauge Cluster??? Can I use the Auto cluster?
Computer??? Again, would the auto computer work?

These are the things I can think of off the top of my head. I've done an auto to 5 spd swap before on a Mustang and it SUCKS! So I'll probably have a shop do this. Also this is my daily driver so I can't have it down for more then a couple days. Couple questions... Can I use the auto computer? I know on Stangs you can use the auto comp no problem but I have no idea about Daewoos. I would think you could get by using it but can someone confirm? Same thing with the gauge cluster, can I reuse it? You don't see me post much but I just want to say that for the money this is a kool daily driver and that this message board is DEAD!!! lol no offense I'm just trying to bring it to life with a lil transmission swap. I hope I'm not the first one attempting this and I hope some people can help me out. Let me know if I forgot anything on that list. I'm sure I did.

Thanks,
Joe

you are right about the computer - AKA ECU - and also add to the parts list a new brakes fluid resivoir... the one for the manual got an extra port for suppling the clutch's master, or at least this is the case in a Lanos.

frankly it is going to be a pain in the @$$ job to do especially with the wiring and ECU... better to swap the whole auto Leggy for a manual Leggy.

I knew you all would tell me its not worth it lol... But I CANT STAND autos... god I hate them with a passion lol. Well here's the problem. My father gave me this car. I was in need of daily driver that wasnt always breaking down lol so he gave me the Leganza... Well that and it gave him an excuse to get the new truck he wanted lol! So I would feel weird if I turned around and sold it. I mean I could, but I'd feel... I dunno weird. After rethinking the parts list and the fact that I don't want to do this myself, a shop is gunna charge me a FORTUNE for this. Hell.... I have a problem lol

Maybe just some upgrades for your Automatic might help. B&M Shiftplus or Autotrans Interceptor, synthetic fluid, maybe a cooler, a new valve kit, or other things you can think of could help. I mean, it is your daily driver, and hopefully you don't plan to be a speed demon with it. For daily drivers I would much rather like an automatic because it frees up your hands for things such as cell phones, eating or drinking. I know your car was a gift and it would be mean to give it up. But a full tranny swap could cost a few grand, enough to by a manual Leganza.

Maybe a trade would work.

try driving it when it is in 1 in the Lanos it makes the ECU shifts up at 6500 RPM so it is like driving a manual and putting the pedal to the metal.

i don't know if the tranny o nthe Leggy will do as the one on the Lanos but at least try it.

My 2 cents.

That's one of the things that pisses me off about it the most. It revs all the way to 6100 RPMS before it shifts into 2nd but its stops pulling at 5100 RPMS. What all is available for these autos to work them over a bit. Some sort of shift kit with a manual shift mode is what I'd want.
