new audio stuff......hooray for me

Post by woo »

this is in off topic because no advice is needed, im just finally happy with what i got (for now....) in the audio department. A little while back i droped in some clarion speakers, but since then the stock head was randomly turning up full blast, so i binned it in favour of a new clarion head.

i only got it cause it was a third off so it does everything you dont need it to.
its nothing flash but its 4x50W does the whole MP3 bit and has a remote (why is it nessisary?)
tis powering :

and them:

The speakers are really nothing flash, 180W up front and 200W in the rear, but they were on a good special

That's a nice setup! :)
I'm sure you know that if you put a good 4 channel amp that produces something like 75 watts RMS x 4 @ 4 ohms, everything would sound a whole lot better.

A few good quality amps that aren't too expensive:

im just going to stick with what ive got till im either over it, ot till payday, whichever comes first. If i had known i would break the old head, i would have gone for more powerful 6by9's. I may go for amps in future but i dont want subs eating into my useable boot space.....

You don't need subs, and just putting an amp on the 4 speakers you just installed will REALLY make a noticable increase in how the overall system sounds.
Just feed the speakers with a little more than the head unit supplies and you will see a big differance.
The problem with using the head unit to power the speakers is the internal amplifier is small and will distort and clip the signal when you turn it up, which the output does not get anywhere near what the new speakers can handle.

Even a new smaller amp with around 50 watts RMS per channel will be a very noticable increase in sound quality because you are not pushing the head unit to it's internal amplifier's limits.

i have KENWOOD speakers 220W and they are 7"X10" driven by a 60W X2 amp... the amp is really small but the bass i make from those Kenwoods are really great, some guys thought i had a sub in the trunk

the plans for my other car are a bit more exciting because it wont be driven regularly. Me and my brother were thinking about putting the new stuff in my woo in, but now the commodore is looking like it will be scoring a DVD player and subs and stuff. The parcell shelf is made of wood so even a sub in the parcel shelf isnt out od the question, although boxes would sound better
