Burnouts

Post by kinkyllama »

How the hell does everyone always do a burnout without moving the car an inch? I have a feeling this is something i should have known or is right infront of me

Well, with front wheel drive cars, I hold the hand brake which locks the back wheels and allows the front wheels to spin in place and make lots of smoke.

:)

Thats what ive done.. even with the handbreak all the way up i can move the car forward though.

I dont see how its possible for rear wheel drive cars though? My dads truck (auto) you just put your left foot on the break and accelerate and you can spin the tires all you want... but thats also the 570tq  but i dont see how the manual guys do it

My friend had a 1970 VW Beetle with a custom brake line hydrolic lock for the front brakes.

Step on the breakes, pull the hydrolic line lock knob up, take your foot off the brakes and the front wheels are locked still, leaving the rear wheels free to spin.

I am guessing with big muscle car rear wheel drive cars, the rear traction is so poor and the engines have such high torque that the wheels just ... spin.

I've heard from a friend that has a civic that he puts his car in 1st gear, starts doing a regular burnout, and quickly moves his left foot from the clutch pedal to the brake pedal. So his left foot is on the brake, and right is on accel.

Mine always moves foward, even with the handbrake...

just be sure to PULL the damn thing up lol

on RWD cars, you use the heel and toe... brake and give some gas with the your right foot... our you can start a burnout and then place your left foot on the brake...

My leganza doesnt have the power to do a burnout  , but from my experience in my brothers ute, its just left on the brake and right on the throttle. I can get it into 3rd (auto) while standing still :D . In the rain i can do static burnouts in the woo, but its not the same.

sorry to spoil every body's contribution here but what's the point of a burnout?? it seems like a total waste of tires, fuel and a massive load on the engine.

i know sometimes it is used to warm up tires before draging but other than that it seems poinless.

i tried something similar to that once... my hand brakes were all the way up and then i started to move the car forward... i was draging my rear wheels that were totally locked  ... that looked very stupid indeed.

well, i have a 93 chevy s-10 pickup manual, i hold the brake with my heel, and let the clutch out while giving it lots of gas, doesnt work on fwds, b/c discs in the front are stronger than the drums in the rear, on rwd the rear drums are soo weak that they can spin easily, btw it is called powerbraking
