Leganza cruise control

Post by TheGreatAndPowerfulOz »

Recently, the cruise control in my Leganza has stopped working.
I press the cruise button on the dash to turn it on and the cruise light on the dash lights up like it should.
When I turn the knob to set the cruise, nothing happens.
If I turn the set knob once more, the cruise light on the dash turns off.

I can turn the dash button off and if I press it again immediately, the cruise light will not come back on. If I leave the button off for 10 mins or more, I can press the button and the cruise light will come back on, but the cruise control will not actually work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Cliff

Is the cruise control system in the Leganza vacuum operated? If so, it could be something as simple as a vacuum leak.

I am not sure if it is a vacuum operated one or not. In fact, I have been very lazy and not even opened the hood to check!

This is my first car with a cruise control and know nothing about them.

Well, that is not completely true ... LOL ... I had a 1979 VW Bus with a notched 2x4 on a hinge with a bungee cord on it.

When you get to 35mph, you pull the 2x4 back so it swings and holds the gas pedal down. There was another notch for 60mph and another for 70mph.
If you touched the pedal with your foot, the bungee cord would spring the 2x4 forward and out of the way.

Wow ... those were the days!! LOL

the cruise on my car has broken twice. It is probably the switch on the pedal, as has been my problem twice. The leganza switch is actually 2 switches, 1 for brakelights and one for cruise control, so you cant just put a toyota (example) one in as they are different.
