Unless you fix the associated CEL, any power gained will be pulled back by the ECU.
When I get the car back, I'll try moving the 2nd o2 sensor and see if that fixes it. Should be done by Jan or so.

Wait, whats the CEL?
And whats the difference between a stock cat and a race cat? I was told a race cat was still legal and should pass emissions also.

I knew the CEL light would come on, but the ECU will actually change the power gained? Anyone care to explain? I wanna learn

The link says: "Having a CAT right after the exhaust manifold is great to help your car warm up and fight cold start emissions. It's not so great for good exhaust flow."
That sounds like the race cat is placed in a different place than the stock one but the instructions sound like your replacing it exactly where the stock one was?
Also does the race CAT weight less?

OK, I'll try to answer all the questions here, let me know if I miss anything.
The race cat replaces the 1st CAT (of two) in the Lanos with a straight pipe. It's not meant as a high flow replacement, but rather an off road only pipe.
The CEL is caused by a catalyst efficiency code thrown by the 2nd o2 sensor. That sensor only checks to make sure the first CAT is working. by moving the o2 sensor past the 2nd CAT, it should fix the CEL which means passing smog will not be an issue. The car will still be an LEV, just have a dirtier startup like an early 90's car or older.
The first CAT by the way is that thing right off your cast exhaust manifold. I show some pictures on the site comparing the two. You can easily see right through the race peice, but only a small bit of light makes it through the stock peice.
Oh and the flanges are very difficult to cut, so unless someone wants to cut them for me or give me the $200 I would need for a batch of 14 then I won't be making the part. Not to mention, high temp gasket maker seems to work MUCH better than the hand cut peices I was making.
There are only 2 Unique Race Fab cats in existance, I have one of them.

Chad,
So if I wanted to install this header.... http://www.sharkracing.com/acecart/bin/ ... =010703000
The first cat would have to be removed? Also how many o2 sensors does the lanos has? 2?
Thanks

Yes and yes. All OBDII cars (which any car newer than 97 is OBDII) have two o2 sensors and 2 or more Catalytic converters. You will get a check engine light with that header which might put your car in a limp mode and actually make it slower. Not a big deal to fix though with either relocating the 2nd o2 sensor or using a MIL eliminator which simulates a catalytic converter. I personally think it's better to move the o2 sensor in case you have a real problem and want the CEL. Not to mention it leaves a place to plug in a wideband o2 sensor for some real fuel tuning.

What are you talking about? I dont know anything about CATS or really much about that area of the engine. Mostly basicssubachad wrote: Oh and the flanges are very difficult to cut, so unless someone wants to cut them for me or give me the $200 I would need for a batch of 14 then I won't be making the part.
