problem starting lanos 1.3
i got a lanos 1.3 pure built 2001.
since yesterday i got the problem that it wont start.
yesterday the only way to start is was to tow the car jumperleads didnt work.
today i finaly got it to start and when i connect the obdII cable it doesnt see any faults.
after few hours it still doesnt start like it should.
only way to start it and keep it running is bu starting it without the cover wit 2 pins and a resistor in it.
moment it fires i need to put the cover on it and directly pull it off again or car idles for 1 or 2 sec and dies again.
but now if i get it to run if i connect the obdII to get realtime data the engine dies.
no fuses are blown but replaced all for new ones
sofar no mechanic i asked about it knows the problem or the solution.
mayby one of you seen the problem or heard about it.

no idea what this means...rieks wrote:

.
the problem sounds like fuel pump might be going
also, are you sure it's obd2 and not ALDL?
Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
its obd2 a 16 pin connector next to steeringcolom.
its build in april 2001.
got the lower connector mounted near the steeringcolom.

Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
Which pins do you short by the resistor? What's the value of the resistor?
Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
dont know the value of the resistor.
but it shorts pin 7 and 16.
its been in the car from factory inside a molex cap hanging under the connector

Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
Shorting 7 (K-line) to 16 (+12v) by a resistor seems quite "unusual" to me. But I don't know everything. If your car is effectively OBD2 compliant you should find somewhere a label saying that.

Do you hear the 2 seconds buzz from fuel pump every time you switch ignition ON?

Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
thanks for the fast reply.
has a sticker saying obdII complaint.
has been several times on a obdII computer to read faults.
and yes i do hear each time the 2 second buzz of the pump
and to be sure the led for the imobiliser does go out when i try starting

Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
Do you have good bright sparks on plugs while cranking?
Does your exhaust smells petrol after attempts of starting?

Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
Some investigations you could do:
-check power & ground to injectors
-check battery voltage at rest (no less than 12.5 volts) and while cranking (no less than 9 volt)
-try starting with throttle a tad open
-check IAC valve for sticking (or the latest system MTIA if you are concerned) or poor contacts.
Have to leave now. Read you again tomorrow.

Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
iac valve is nice and clean and not sticking
grounds have been cleaned including one under passenger seat.
battery voltage seem to be goodwhen at rest and while starting.
sparks seem to be not to bright.
moment it runs it runs like it should.
getting idea its a problem with the ecm.
but cant locate it.
its not on the places mentioned in other topics( rightside footwell or under passengerseat)
had the car running for few min when i connected the obd2 scanner car instantly died again and trownd a p0337 and a p0342

Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
small update on car.
since i had the p0337 code and had been reading up on possibilities of fixing.
i changed the crankshaftposition sensor.
didnt help anything.
also when i use the cover on the obd2 port i dont get spark

Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
update
car is getting fuel and weak spark.
sensors are working.
did have a p0352 now would mean coil went bad
also got a tip to connect pin 7 obd connector to wire 56 of ecu wiring because ecu might not see immobilizer got turned of.
still only way to start it is using the molex cap with restistor to touch the pin 7 and 16 for a sec.

Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
No more idea to help you but still following your investigation.
Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
Found something about K-line pull-up resistor.
From http://calibra-classic.org/pages/ecu2pc ... 9sum%C3%A9
From http://calibra-classic.org/pages/ecu2pc ... 9sum%C3%A9
If any helps,The K-line is pulled up to Vbat by a 510 ohms biasing resistor, and biased to ground through a resistor that may vary between 50K and 110K ohms [M].
Re: problem starting lanos 1.3
could you try a new coil? it's easy to get to and change out, although a little expensive if that isn't the problem
