Lanos automatic 1.5 stalling when pulling away

Post by Lanos1.5Owner »

Hi all,

I've searched and read a few posts on this forum (as well as on Google) but can't find anyone with the same problem/solution.

About a month ago I bought an automatic Daewoo Lanos 1.5 (ETEC engine). It's 2000 and has done about 180,000 KMs. The previous owner had it for most of the cars life and has kept the car well maintained.

The car has run fine and I've driven about a 1,000 KM with no issues (apart from the steering/handling feels awkward after owning a VW Golf).

Recently the car has stalled a few times, pulling away from stopped. Every time this has been with the air conditioning on. Without the AC on the car seems to pull away OK.

I'm not sure then if the AC is taking too much power from the engine, or something else is the problem and the extra power needed for the AC is just highlighting the issue.

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Owen

just turn the a/c off

it's only a small engine, the a/c takes a lot of power

my mum's 2002 subaru legacy rx does it too sometimes (it's a 2.5 auto)

it's nothing to worry about :D

yeah the easy thing too do is just switch the A/C off when you stop..

or you could give it more gas ;-)...lol

thou a idle learn might help,

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

It's about 45 degrees here so turning off the AC completely is not my prefered option ;) but I can turn off the AC when stopped.

The car is automatic so I can't easily give it more revs before pulling away. In fact, trying to put my foot down when pulling away is almost guaranteed to stall the engine.

The car used to pull away OK with the AC on so I was just concerned that this issue may be indicative of a bigger problem. :?

What's an "idle learn" BTW?

Thanks again,
Owen

I thought I'd update this in case it helps anyone else.

The car got worse and worse to the point it could hardly move and would keep stalling. Once it was running it would be fine but then I'd turn it off and on again (engine still warm) and it'd keep stalling. I took it to the garage and they couldn't even find any problem at first. In the end they replaced the fuel pump and the car pulls away perfectly from stopped with the AC on full. The car even seems to be more powerful than before. :)

Blocked fuel filter, or injectors need taking out and cleaning. Could change the Fuel regullator too.

Have the fuel pump checked at the same time.

Sounds like fuelling to me.
There's just not quite enough to get it off the mark by the sound of it.

Oops, just read the update. D'oh!
