"Check"-light starts to blink @ +60mph

Re: "Check"-light starts to blink @ +60mph
it is strange how the scanner didn't get any fault codes... if the CEL is on then their MUST be a code stored unless to take off the battery cable

Re: "Check"-light starts to blink @ +60mph
I bought the codereader and recieved it by mail last week.
It works perfectly but all it reads out is a P0300 code. Technical Description: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected.
Basically this means that the the car's computer has detected that not all of the engine's cylinders are firing properly for some reason.
Some info on this code:
A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty spark plugs or wires
* Faulty coil (pack)
* Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
* Faulty fuel injector(s)
* Burned exhaust valve
* Faulty catalytic converter(s)
* Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
* Faulty camshaft position sensor
* Defective computer
Possible Solutions
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.
Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.
Don't know for sure but could be a faulty oxygen sensor maybe (because it happens only at high speeds)... I have no idea really, could also be the coilpack due to previously bad sparkplug cables.

question
I will try to find a new coil pack and see if it makes any difference.
Does anyone have any idea how to remove the oxygen sensor from the rubber intake hose? It seems to have a metal clip thingy around it and it wouldn't come off...

Re: "Check"-light starts to blink @ +60mph
the oxygen sensor is not on the rubber intake hose
the oxygen sensor is on the exhaust manifold, the intake air temperature is the one on the intake rubber hose
for P0300 troubleshooting... focus on the ignition system

Could be a sticky valve too or something wrong in this area.MaXiMiZoR wrote:If everyone here thinks it is a misfire condition, why does the car misfire only at high speeds??
Re: "Check"-light starts to blink @ +60mph
You're right! I got the 2 mixed up again. So the oxygen sensor is the lambda sensor if I'm right... Can one clean it?MMamdouh wrote:the oxygen sensor is not on the rubber intake hose

Can I also clean IAT-sensor at intake hose? By the way I still can't get the IAT out of the hose...

I suspect the EGR-valve... The car sometimes holds in and I read an article that comes very close to my own experiences: http://www.carkb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/uk- ... k-of-power

you are right indeedMaXiMiZoR wrote: . So the oxygen sensor is the lambda sensor if I'm right..
nope.. you can try card cleaner or similar products but it won't do you any good... if the sensor is bad it has to be replaced.. Can one clean it?
that sensor doesn't get dirty... it faces air that just came out of the air filter... also even if it got dirty it won't dramatically affect the engine's behaviourCan I also clean IAT-sensor at intake hose?

Re: "Check"-light starts to blink @ +60mph
This is a piece of an article from another site on a Lanos 1.4 8v that is very similar to my car:
My car also makes a loud low frequency roaring induction sound when applying the throttle. The above article didn't answer the question, so I am asking here: could that sound be a blocked cat or is this a normal sound?
Before I have the cat inspected, would it be further evidence of a blocked
cat if the car is more responsive and runs better when the air filter is
removed?
The reason I ask is because I tried the car without the air filter installed
and it ran much better and was much more responsive at top end acceleration.
Not perfect but a hell of a lot better! I fitted a new air filter and
although it did perform better than the old filter, the car was actually
more responsive when there was no filter in place! With the new filter
fitted there is still that loud roaring induction sound through the air
intake when throttle is applied and I am wondering if this is symptoms of a
partially blocked cat?

Re: "Check"-light starts to blink @ +60mph
Hmmm all very interesting. Thank you for the above. Can someone tell me why a Lanos 1.5 would loose power up hills (like it is running out of fuel or air) then after the hill the CEL starts to come on and it runs like a bag of puss?
Thanks Chris

can you record this sound so we can hear it and have a better chance for analyzing it?MaXiMiZoR wrote:This is a piece of an article from another site on a Lanos 1.4 8v that is very similar to my car:

Re: "Check"-light starts to blink @ +60mph
I don't think the induction sound is a problem.
I removed the resonator that sits underneath the airbox and the annoying roaring sound is gone. Sounds much better with my cold air intake now.
