o2 sensor again, and again, and again...
hi all. Ive still got my 2001 lanos 1.6 dohc auto. running good except that she seems to be going through a o2 sensor once a year or more. in march of this year i put a brand new sensor in to cure the CEL i had. that seemed to fix it. the car actually sat for about 4 months, and then i got her out again. well today the CEL came on and it was the same code as before calling that the o2 was bad. i can get a new sensor under warranty, but since Ive only put (at most) 6,000 miles on this sensor and not a whole lot on the last one, there seems to be a bigger problem. any ideas? thank you in advance for any info any one might be able to give me!!!!!

can faulty injectors cause O2 sensor to fail?... throwing in too much fuel or leaking during engine is off and that causes carbon build up that might foul the sensor... maybe

hmmm. its possible, but i haven't had the "hard to start" and "poor fuel economy" symptoms to go with it. also when i get the CEL its not always on. it will come on for a while, then go off, then when ever it decides to come back on it will for a while and then go off. there seems to be no pattern to the on/off cycle that it does. some times it will be on for a week at a time, some times for only a day. it might go 2 months with out popping on, or it might go a week. i can warranty the sensor, but as i said id like to find the real problem not just cover it up.

Is your engine eating oil?
Do you tank good quality unleaded fuel?
What's the error code do you get?

can this be an issue with the wiring rather than the sensor itself?

I have the same type of intermittent problem with my camshaft position sensor. Are these wires run through the same bundles and perhaps there is a place where they get worn or a hard bend where they could break? mine seems to be a wiring rather than a sensor problem too. Good luck finding that one!
