question about stock cams

Post by sheepdizildawg »

Was putting the engine together today, and when I went to line up the timing marks on the cam gears, they dont line up perfectly unless I hold one of them in the spot while I put on the belt. When holding this like that, two of the intake valves are slightly open. Question is, is this normal? and if not, is it possible to put the cams in on the wrong side? are they the same on both sides? all the numbers are the same, but one says m3 and one says m5.

Supposing it's for the 1.6DOHC the intake camshaft is unstable when on timing point at 3 o'clock. Start putting Tbelt from crankshaft gear and going anti-clockwise. After tensionner is set and 2 cw crankshaft turns the timing marks must be spot on. I don't know the meaning of m3 & m5. IMHO re-used parts should go to their original position.

many guys said that one of the cam shafts has to be held in place or else it would flick a little bit during cam belt installation... i guess this is normal

its cool, car is going to the junk yard this week sometime. Bolt that went to the cam broke off inside the cam and also two bolts broke off into the head. Guess its my fault for letting it sit there for a year and a half
