When I bought my Lanos about a month ago the previous owner said the car would run rough when it was low on gas.... about 3 weeks later now it's undriveable.
If the car is in a good mood you can make it go about 5 miles and your foot has to be very easy on the gas, however no matter how easy you are on the gas it will eventually die.
Any flooring of the car will result in it stalling and dying immediately.
Does this sound like a bad fuel pump to you?
I think it's my fuel pump...

Change your fuel filter first. If no change check (measure) fuel pressure at injector rail when revs up engine.

I agree with Daniel, go with the easy fix first.

could be a dozen other things, do some tests to try to narrow it down.

I guess I'll just pay the $40 to have a diagnostic run on it, if can be so many different things I don't want to waste my money on a part that worked all along.
Re: I think it's my fuel pump...
how much is a fuel filter, a couple of bucks? It might cost you more for the diagnostics than it would have to just replace that. it sure isn't going to hurt if it's never been replaced anyway.

I got a fuel filter at Pep Boys for $13.99. If you are going to change it yourself, you need a special fuel filter release tool.
The Purolator filter number is F65217
Here is a link to it on the Advance Auto Parts web site for $10.99

low fuel pressure can cause those symptoms as well... this can be solved by a new pump
