Strange bogging and power gain???

Post by projectsleeperwoo »

Ok I've been having this weird problem with my leganza, first off I'll start with what I know.. The car is a 97 leganza with the 1.8l d-tech dohc Korean spec, 5 speed, new cat, new spark plugs, freshly cleaned throttle body, new tb gasket, problems were before all of the new stuff and the tb cleaning. I also did the air filter box mod where you remove the lower part of the box. The engine has a bit of blowby(pressure in the valve cover when I open the oil fill cap). When the car is idling and I hit the throttle WOT the rpms instantly drop, there is a pause, then start to rise quickly so I guess you could say a little "lag", then when I'm driving if I ease into the trottle it will accelerate kinda slowly up to about 4k rpms then it acts like I hit a nitrous button or something all the way up to about 6k to 6300 when I shift, then it does it all over again. It almost seams like it has V-tech or something. Also tonight I was on my way home driving up a hill in 2nd gear at about 1k rpm and I hit WOT and of course it bogged then slowly rose in rpm to around 4k then it immediately started making power and I had some crazy torque steer that almost made me go off the road... I have searched the internet and cant find anything like this and have never heard of these symptoms before. Alos when the car is idling every once in a while you can feel a bump in the steering wheel like a slight missfire but the tach never moves.

I know this is a lot to read and any help would be greatly appreciated...

thanks
-Justin

Could it be the computer not going into closed loop properly at WOT? That might be the tps?

so it's wot and leaning out and then closed loop kicks in and dumps a load of fuel in and matches the air coming in. Maybe? Lol

I'll check the tps... yea its very strange. also there is no smoke white, blue, or black comming from the exhaust at idle or any rpm with or without a load. Also its not throwing a check engine light.

If you have the VGIS system than additional air ports are opened around 4k rpm giving you extra "kick".

1 of two videos I made tonight showing the bog from idle. you can see that when I bring the idle up to around 2k then wot it responds right away but from a normal idle (about 900 rpms) there is a lag.

second video took while driving every acceleration was wot, and no I don't drive the piss out of the car all the time. I also included a couple of segments of the system playing.
