99 Lanos, unhooked battery, replaced starter, now NOT FUEL!

Post by bgroce »

I just replaced the starter on my mother's 99 Lanos, I found that it was easier to remove the intake and regasket it while I was at it

well the car went together nicely, only one issue... the engine is not getting fuel... at all

this is what I did:

disconnected battery

removed air box

removed throttle body

removed upper intake

removed fuel rail

removed lower intake

removed starter

replaced starter

replaced other items and made new gaskets

reconnected battery

car will turn over but no fuel (I even checked for fuel by unhooking the 'soft' line coming into the fuel rail... it was bone dry)

if I jump pins 30 and 87 on the fuel pump relay then I get fuel instantly, so iirc, the fuel pump relay is kicked over by the ECU, right?

If you jump the relay and you get fuel then you found your problem. The fuel pump relay is bad. The fuse is obviously ok (there is current) all you need to verify is that the PCM is sending the on command. You can check this with a test light and probing the PCM feed at the relay box it should light and then turn off within a second or two when you open the ignition.

If this is ok, then the relay is bad
