Ok, so I'm looking into possibly replacing the entire exhaust from the 90 deg elbow after the pre-cat back.
Refresh my memory, is the stock lanos exhaust pipe diameter 1.75"?
I already have the cat-back upgraded to 2.25" so I'm thinking about continuing that through the entire exhaust.
I plan on replacing the 90 deg elbow with a mandrel bend. The stock one comes with a pinch down to about 1" which I'm sure isn't good for flow.
My flex pipe is badly frayed so it'll be good to replace that. Does anyone know the length of the mesh offhand? I wanna say it's 8" but I'll crawl under the car to measure if no one knows.
Next component is the blocked catalytic converter. I can get a hi-flow cat to replace that with. Anyone know the length of the cat offhand? again I can measure if not.
I'm currently using a glasspack as a resonator and plan to keep that in place.
The previous owner put on one of those cheap ebay Apex mufflers with a monster tip. This has driven me crazy since I bought the car but it never made it a high priority. I plan on replacing it with a flowmaster 50 2.25" in/out C/C muffler and a nice 2.25" straight weld on tip. I need to measure the current muffler length to see what will fit under there.
Any thoughts / suggestions?

Re: Lanos Exhaust Upgrade
Ok well when I got to the shop the guy showed me that the front cat is crumbling and would need to be replaced as well. He said it's probably what caused the rear cat to block up. This same exact thing happened to my last Lanos too. Is this an issue with the front cats on the Lanos'?
Anyone know where to get one cheap?
If not, would it throw any CEL codes if I hollowed it out? I had a hollow one on my last Lanos' but I can't remember if it caused any CEL.

Just dropped my car off at the shop to get the new muffler and tip put on. Can't wait to hear how it sounds.
Next I need to replace the front cat and flex pipe and it will be complete.

I can get the Vibrant cats at really good prices, all of Virants stuff for that matter. as for the CEL I don't have a cat at all and I didn't get a CEL, I used a "CEL Delete" tho from Vibrant as well. it basically just pulls the down stream sensor out of the exhaust path, you wont pass emissions tests if your city does them but it will run without the CEL comming up.

Re: Lanos Exhaust Upgrade
Im not a big fan of the aftermarket catalysts. In my experiences with them, they dont last as long as factory and overall fuel economy is affected. Then again they are high flow so the car may become more responsive if thats what your looking for. I do like the exhaust tip though. pretty clean design there.
the precat is just there to burn NOx emissions there are no codes in the pcms chart which reference the precat until the aveo days... so no hollowing it out will not set any codes.

Re: Lanos Exhaust Upgrade
Ok, so far so good. The exhaust is a bit louder than I expected with the 60 series delta. I thought that would've been closer to stock. Still sounds good though.
One thing that is bothering me since having this done is I have this metal vibration sound coming from the front of the exhaust. It's kind of like a heat sheild is loose and vibrating. The shop checked it out and nothing is loose. He said sometimes with the hollowed out cat in the front it will cause distortion in the exhaust flow which would resonate in the flex pipe. I've never heard of this so I was wondering if anyone else can pitch their 2 cents in on it.
