Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
Seem lately that more and more people who were interested in modifying their Daewoo's have either dropped off our forum or sold their car.
It seemed that a few years ago we had dozens of cars that were being modified but now there are just a hand full.
Perhaps it's just a situation where people are frustrated, or without money, or their cars simply died and they don't feel like putting in the effort to get them running again.
Kinkyllama dropped off the board and has not been here for nearly a year despite having not one but two project vehicles and his company web page is now a porn site
Audacity Racing dropped off the face of the earth two years ago with very little explanation ( along with some of my money for parts he was going to fabricate )
GSiTurbo is "retired" from performance mods and now owns a large sail boat that is waiting for spring time to come
GSE_Turbo dropped off the forum, then came back saying he was good to go, then dropped off it again
TheGreatAndPowerfulOz only comes by once in a blue moon despite owning two Daewoo's
DomWoo dropped off the face of the earth one day
Efrain's car is out of commission and I'm short on cash so I'm not doing a whole lot on my vehicles at the moment
Thankfully there are still a few guys ( mostly outside of North America ) who are working on their Daewoo's but it seems like the performance aspect of Daewoo's is starting to die off.
It seems there are more interest in Aveo / Optra than Lanos / Nubira
I have to think with the low resale value of Daweoo's many have been sent to the junk yards way before they should have, you would think they would be even more attractive at the prices they are selling for these days.
Locally I've noticed at least five Lanos being advertised for under $1000.... one of them was just $300
I guess people just don't see them as "cool" cars.... they would rather spend $3K and buy an old 240SX or WRX and fix it up.
We seem to have a number of new members, but more often than not they ask a few questions about fixing their cars and leave.
I seem to spend most of my time chasing down SPAMMERS and just skim over topics quickly.... it's been months since I made any sort of decent technical posting.

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
In short....... anyone have any bright ideas about how to bring back more people?
I was thinking that restructuring might help a bit to bring in some of the Opel/Vauxhall/Chevrolet/Suzuki/Pontiac/Saturn crowd
A while back Efrain was thinking about adding more domain names to try and bring in more people.
There are lots of Daewoo owners that have no idea they share parts with Opel and Suzuki vehicles and that goes the opposite way as well.
I still like coming onto the forum.... but day after day.... week after week.... the posts don't change much despite a large number of visitors to the site.
So...... what do you guys think?
What is needed to help spice up the forum and bring in some new "blood" ?

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
one thing i can think of that may make a good impact on new visitors would be to have a showcase board/thread/section where all the top daewoo's are displayed with data/information to accompany some pictures. Kind of like what you'd find on cardomain, etc. But just for Daewoos.
The link for such a section would need to be at the top of the forum page, or even on the intro page before getting to the forum. And to ensure that only modified woos are added to the section there can be a few minimum requirements, ie: your car has to have at least 3 modifications to be added.
This way, if it catches a new visitor's eye or someone with a daewoo looking for info, but doesnt want to join up to the forum that may feel somewhat more encouraged by seeing a selection of modified ones and then decide to join up and start modifying aswell.
just a thought, duno if it makes much sense, still half asleep. and btw, the reason im not on here much anymore is because ive moved out my parents house and havnt got an internet connection at my place yet.

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
for the time being i guess very little... we have a local car forum now with a Daewoo section that includes so many informative members so i recon the preference will always be to that section given it is in Arabic and all... even the guys that seek hardcore info are very few so it won't be very appealing since those already got good command of English and already members here.

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
Multi language forum is not a bad idea.
I have contacts with the World Touring Car Chevrolet team. THEY were the ones that suggested to change the name to chev-tech or something simillar, that way they may help us even by putting a sticker on the touring cars.
The way i see it is that the new 'daewoos' are all Chevs and people dont know about that. So they dont know where to go.
Some weeks ago i went to a friends a 'performance shop' and some guys with an Aveo was there asking for stuff.
Guess what? its the same thing always, no one know where to get stuff and the minor aftermarket support is obvious.
"Can i use your computer" I said, a quick google search and there was the kalos sport kit, the aveo guy was like WTF that looks nice.
We went on a long chat then he asked me how i knew so much about the car... I laughed and showed him the daewootech site, he added me to msn so i can help him a bit, but havent heard from him for a while.
Changing the sites name to Chevtech (or whatever) doesnt mean that daewootech is going to die. Its like the evolution of the brand, outside Korea the daewoo name is barely dead. We're all GM anyway.
I vote for the idea of adding another domain name. What you guys think?

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
great idea... actually daewoo only lives in Egypt... and by 2010 production under the daewoo logo stopped and all brand new lanoses here have a chevy emblem... so we gotta face the fact that our cars are living under a new name now so we got to cope with that to keep the forum living as well
i vote yes

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
It would be nice to get a few Opel, Vauxhall, Holden guys on as well, I have managed to get a few Migweb guys over here but for the most part the current people on here are not buying much
Most projects are very far along and there are not many starting up.
I've also tried to get some more local interests involved showcasing what can be done to the Optra/Aveo platforms
My personal opinion is that we have to start hitting www.cardomain.com
Here is my profile... http://www.cardomain.com/id/Precisionboost
I know some of you are on cardomain already but I'm starting to contact local owners to let them know about Daewootech.com

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
Personally..... I think that right at the top we need to add separate sections for cars to draw people in.
Kalos/Aveo/Swift/Wave
Lacetti/Optra
Lanos
Nubira
Nexia/ Astra / Kadett / Racer
Other
To me these are the main five, all other Daewoo's could fall into the "other category"
With the current setup there are no specific areas for individual types of vehicles.
If an Aveo ower came on here he might not find information on an Aveo and leave.
In reality there are tons of posts on Aveo's but one has to dig to find them because there are posts on so many different cars.
I also like the idea of multiple domains.
Lastly I think we need to organize some regional information.... there was talk of a specific arabic area but we might be better off with a "middle east" area.... then multiple languages can be spoken in that particular area.
I was thinking.....
North America
South America
Europe / UK / South Africa
Middle East
Asia
We could even clean it up by having just one "Regional Members" and put the individual areas as subforums to this "Regional Members"

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
+1 to what PB said,
the addition of vehicle specific areas would make info a lot easier to find and make it all look a bit more organised overall.
the regional section isnt a bad idea, but too much segregation makes it feel a little dysfunctional in my opinion.

I just want to say that I am a noob here on the forum. I want to also add that I bought my first woo a few months ago for $1,500. I have put in about a grand so far worth of work trying to make it a reliable car to use for a few years to come. I have been skimming through the posts and try to help when I can so far. I am not a mechanic but I am def not a noob tinkerer. I am proud to be part of this forum and hopefully for years to come. I love my woo and hope she sticks with me for a few years so I can enjoy the excitement of driving her. Thanks to all that brought this little community together and I hope to get to know some of you guys.

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
the separate sections are aren't a bad idea up front but there can be a division among the owners. Aveo owners might stop looking at the Lanos sections and miss out on developments from whats basically the same motor. The same can be said between the Lanos and LeMans or the Nubira and Forenze and so on and so on.
if separate sections appear than we need to limit what is in each of those sections. they need to only have information that is specific to to that chassis like suspension, body, interior, engine tech and error code sections. anything that would deal with engine performance or transmission should perhaps have a listing in that section but be redirected to a general section specific to those topics. this way people can have the ability to instantly recognize the model they have but all our performance community is still united.
outside of that, I think we need to add a couple extra domain names.
we could see if people are interested in adding daewootech.com to their cardomain profile pics.
Garrett ...and yes, I'm back! ...again!

Re: Fewer modified Daewoo's on the forum
Hey guys ... I'm here for my once in a blue moon post.
Picked up a 2001 Lanos Hatchback for my dad.
A girl who owned it near where I live did not listen to me when I told her when to change the timing belt and it broke.
The car sat from 2007 til we bought it from her for $400 a few months ago.
Bought the engine from Daewooluvr and did an engine swap.
The car is getting it's state inspection today, new license plates from the DMV tomorrow and will bring it home tomorrow or the next day!
It needs a little body work, but over all, the car looks almost new inside and out, apart from a dent on the driver side rear quarter panel.
I will post pics after it's back home.
