Hi,
I need some help, I have a 2002 Lanos with two codes. The first is for the O2 sensor, that one I can deal with.
The second is code P0342 CMP Sensor Signal Low. Is that the Camshaft Position Sensor? Where is that located? How big of a job to replace?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: 2002 Lanos with Check Engine Codes
The sensor can be replaced in 5 seconds just need a 10mm 1/4 in swivel socket and a magnet. All it requires is loosening the timing cover and pulling it back for access. HOWEVER there is a TSB out for the CMP sensor and circuit which sees you installing an inline fusible link into the harness at the 5 volt ref wire. Check the sensor harness for a good firm connection, and no cracks or chafes in the insulation. Many times this is the fault.
The 02 code may be interrelated, as the CMP just tells the computer when each intake valve is open so it can fire the respective fuel injector accordingly. When a problem is present, the computer just fires all injectors per bank at the same time, or "gang fires" as techs usually refer to as. This will not affect performance or driveability, but will cause a richer than normal mixture, and a o2 code at times.

Re: 2002 Lanos with Check Engine Codes
Replaced the sensor, also did the timing belt, water pump, and some other belts.
My question now is, the trouble code is now gone, but several areas on the reader say "not ready". The guy who worked on it said they should clear in a few days.
Can anybody give me a better idea of how long it might take?
i live in Illinois, and I'm in violation of emissions testing, and until I get it tested I can't renew my plates.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: 2002 Lanos with Check Engine Codes
I learned to drive about 80 miles. I learned that the Computer runs the tests at about 75 miles after reset. I hope this helps. Let us know how you make out.
Re: 2002 Lanos with Check Engine Codes
Thanks for the help. Looks like I'll shoot for 80 miles then go get it tested.
thanks again.
thanks again.

Drove 80 miles, got it tested, passed with flying colors!
