Re: Porting & Flow Numbers of the U20SED Head!

Post by exist3nce »

I managed to get the head installed on the weekend and the car is drivable, but I think my cam timing is off by 1-2 teeth because the idle is very choppy and power is lacking. I will be re-adjusting the cam timing ASAP. I will also have more pictures posted up shortly of the whole head install process.

Head installation pictures

Post by exist3nce »

Here are some pictures of my spare head that I pulled off my old motor with the blown headgasket. I took a closeup of one of the areas where the headgasket was leaking coolant into one of the cylinders:

Here is what the exhaust and intake ports look like from the factory (stock):

Cleaning all the baked on carbon and crap off the top of the pistons:

This whole swap was done in my home garage :)

Prepping the surface of the block with fine emery cloth for the new head. Cometic MLS gasket and ARP studs are being installed as well:
(we had to drill 3 oil drain holes in the gasket, as they were missing)

Here are the ported and polished exhaust and intake ports:

Thats it for the pictures for now.... dyno results will be coming soon!

Thanks Nubaroo. No I haven't been to the dyno yet, I've just been to busy with work and other stuff. I'm also kind of waiting for the weather to get colder here so that I can tune it for the cold air of winter time while at the dyno.

Out of curiousity what did you use to clean up the piston tops. I've rebuilt a couple honda motors and i never can get them looking like that. We usually end up sending them out for coatings anyway but wow, whatever you used was fantastic.

Hey Lamborgini

I used a combination of brake cleaner, a product called "intake medic" which is meant to clean the carbon out of your intake and t/b, and a small fine brass wire brush. Aside from those, it also takes patience to stand there for 2 hours scrubbing, but i was determined lol. I was also careful to blow out each bore with compressed air, especially around the rings so that all the crud wouldn't scrape up the cylinder walls when the motor was started.

Ported/Polished Head @ 13.5psi Dyno Results

Post by exist3nce »

I finally had some time to get to the dyno and do some tuning...

I don't have the graph for it, but at 6psi before the porting it made 180whp and after it made 205whp.

During the dyno session we ramped up the boost to 13.5psi and managed to make 253whp at the safe limit of my injectors. Goals for this tune were to make as much horsepower as possible, while keeping a nearly flat torque curve.

The turbo is not maxed out yet, and I should have another mod or two coming soon :)

Cool bud that is awesome!!!! :D :D :D :D

25WHP gain from the porting alone and then 73WHP from upping the boost

You must be really chuffed with the extra power on tap :D :D :D

Is true to say ... port/polish work on DAEWOO engines is a must
Very nice gains
I envy that flat torque curve

Get some bigger injectors and up that boost
Your car should be in the 300whp any time soon

Props for you take care 8)

Hey I've taken all my videos down temporarily.... sorry to disappoint. I will be putting them back up hopefully with some new content at some point.

The car is doing well though.
