fuel filter Mis-hap
had to get a new fuel pump so before i installed it thought it would be a good idea to swap out the filter. had issues getting the disconnect tool in due to clearance issues. i had read somewhere before cut the filter off and then the disconnect tool slides in and viola. Well didn't work at all, seems that the ones you buy from the auto store don't fit properly and now i'm stumped. Was thinking about getting some rigid plastic tube and triming it to fit my needs and using that to get those spring clips to dis-engange. anyone have any thoughts on diameter or maybe another route to go. 2000 lanos hatch.

to get the clips off i used 2 small flat screwdrivers.
i broke one of the clips but it was still usable, i.e. it doesnt leak, but i tested it before i drove lol

fixed the prob. I looked in the medicine cabinet and found a medicine dropper used to give kids meds. looked to be the right diameter got a knife and started trimming and it worked on the second try way better than anything you can buy at the parts store.

The correct size is 3/8s. Scissor type disconnect tool is the correct tool to use. Sometimes the tabs get stuck, spraying some penetrating fluid will have it off in a snap.
Glad you resolved the problem, and hopefully you wont have to shell out $$$ for the pump (doubtful) lool

Re: fuel filter Mis-hap
you can find Quick Disconnect tabs in most auto parts stores for these which I would highly recommend.
