Lanos thermostat housing replacement
Hey Guys,
I have a 2002 Lanos that I need to replace the thermostat housing on. Just a quick, (and probably stupid) question. I picked up the housing for a 2004 Aveo, which should work, but when I replaced it once before I can't remember if I need to put form a gasket or something to seal it. I did buy the o ring also.
Thanks for your help.

Nope it just uses an o-ring seal...

How abt a metal housing. It cost abt $150US. Plus Abt $$20US shipped.
Aveo 1.7M DOHC
Re: Lanos thermostat housing replacement
Thank you. Got it changed out on Saturday.
The Aveo housing was $91.00 by me and worked like a charm.

Doesn't seem costable when you have to dump it in 30k miles for a new thermostat/cooling service interval...

Re: Lanos thermostat housing replacement
When mine went at about 90K miles I got a metal housing.....$89.....
Re: Lanos thermostat housing replacement
Well if it is the type of housing that can have the internal thermostat removed and replaced all the better, but dropping 80+ beans on a part that has to be replaced every 30k miles? Naw dunno about that.
Service calls for coolant flush and thermostat changes ever 30-45k miles. People dont do it is another thing though, but it is recommended.
Here in sunny and very hot (in the 80s now) miami, most shops do coolant and hose changes and thermo changes every 30k miles.
Anyways where the hell are you guys buying the plastic oem one for 60 bucks? I gotten them for 20 bucks oem

Re: Lanos thermostat housing replacement
A metal thermostat housing for a Lanos/Aveo should only cost you about $50 plus shipping ... look on Ebay
Re: Lanos thermostat housing replacement
mine was similarly priced and ni shipping. I ordered it from a local Advance Auto Parts and it was in in 1 day. No shipping, easy to replace. Just make sure you order the extra gasket. there is one in the kit, but you need another one, unless you use the old one. For an extra $1 or $2, it isn't worth the chance
Re: Lanos thermostat housing replacement
Yeah the extra gasket is important. I made that mistake and it set me back an extra day
