Lacetti steering whinning sound

Post by tede »

Dear friends,

recently I noticed a whinning sound coming from turning the steering wheel.

the sound is not coming from the engine bay. It is from the inside cabin somewhere from the steering column.

it is getting louder and irritating.

any gurus here that knows how I can rectify this problem without replacing the steering shaft?

Its not the steering shaft, its the rack and pinion...

I know exactly what you mean, its not a whinning sound, rather a whirrling sound. Almost like if the steering wheel plastic covers were rubbing against something. My Woo had this problem when I first aquired it, and it has 39k miles. Replacing the steering rack will cure the problem...

got a similar issue and it turned out to be the rod connecting the electrical circuit of the horn caught some dirt and kinda "grinding " it against the steering wheel

removed the plastic cover behind the steering wheel and cleaned the whole thing with WD40 and it is now noise free
