Well.... I own a 2004 Chevy Optra5 made in Korea by Daewoo.... I have a Pontiac Lemans and two Passport Optima.... both made in Korea by Daewoo..... so even if I sell my 2002 Daewoo Lanos.... one German manufactured Opel does not mean I won't be a Daewoo owner.

The issue with the Calibra is that the parts have to come from Germany, Poland, UK as they most certainly do not sell spark plug wire sets for an Opel C20LET here in North America.

The pricing of parts in Poland is the best of all three... every year GSiTurbo goes back to Poland for a month and he usually brings back some nicely priced parts at 1/4 to 1/10th the price they would be elsewhere.

Just counting the days until September 1st...... that's when the car becomes "legal" for entry into Canada and it shows up on the dock in Vancouver.

It's somewhere in the Pacific ocean..... not sure when it will be here.... could be any day.... not sure how long it takes to come over from Japan.... got to think a few weeks.

Well from what I gather all "Opel" cars imported into Japan are LHD... the only RHD ones will say "Vauxhall "

That is to say GM started selling Opel and Vauxhall into Japan in the early 90's so there are quite a few there.

I could probably pick up some Calibra's and Astra's with the C20XE pretty cheap.... my importer will also bring in engines and other parts if the price is right.

Ideally I was thinking of C20LET's C20XE's and F20,F28 gearboxes but he won't be importing parts for a while from what I gather at this point.

I bet you could make money importing low mileage Calibra's to Australia.... I remember looking around there for C20LET's a few years back and they wanted something like $4000 for a high mileage engine and 6spd gearbox !!!!

I can ask my importer if you'd like.... his contacts in Japan might be able to hook you up.

As a side note.......... the Calibra has passed Canada customs inspection and is sitting in Vancouver BC awaiting pickup on Oct 1/09

I am going to have it shipped via rail to Edmonton.... so if all goes well I should see it in a week or two.

Well.... it has arrived and it's now at my shop awaiting a small amount of work to get it ready for provincial inspection so that I can register it.

It's actually in awesome shape... and there are all kinds of extras that are worth their weight in gold.

First off the car received a full treatment of Steinmetz Opel tuning products

It came with lightweight 17 Steinmetz wheels, Steinmetz body kit, Steinmetz interior components.

The Calibra has a DVD Navigation system but it's in Japanese so I can't understand a thing!!!

The car is in immaculate condition, even the synthetic oil is ultra clean despite the fact that it's 10,000km old.

In fact.... when looking into the oil cap hole at the valvetrain GSiTurbo said "oh wow...this is the cleanest engine I have ever seen"

He even swore at me and said he should have bought it ( since he was the one that found it on the auction site )

It looks like the car has been painted, I assume it was at the same time the body kit was installed.

Underside looks practically new.... zero rust.... exhaust looks like it might be stainless.... next to no discoloration.

To me.... it looks like a 1 year old car.... it drives like a new car.... it has no squeaks or rattles.... it's in amazing condition.

As for the "work" I must do .... I have to find out if I have to install daytime running lights and a high mount stop light as that has been standard equipment for cars in Canada for quite a while and I believe imported cars must also be upgraded to have these two features.
