Leganza DTC HELP

Post by vortec1 »

I have a 1999 Leganza that I just replaced the head gasket , wires, plugs, etc. The car runs good now with no hesitation or anything. The problem I have is when I first start the car after about 2 minutes I get code P0301 (which is misfire on #1 cylinder). If I clear the code and drive the car the rest of the day all is well and no more codes apear. The next morning repeat the cycle. I even cleared the code and took it for a State Inspection and PASSED with flying colors. Whats going on with the Woo?

I also changed the coil pack yesterday but this didn't help. When the engine is cold you can hear the misfire if standing behindthe car at the muffler. I pulled #1 sparkplug and it was black with soot. Somebody give me an idea of what to try next.

Black with soot is fouled by gas. Try swapping injector #1 & #2 ?

Swapped the injector and the spark plugs didn't do a bit of good. Just about ready to give up on it.

was it black all over or jsut hte electroed part? if it was all over ( ie on the treads) then you have a bad valve cover gasket, easy fix.

Timing has been checked several times and was good. Valve cover gasket has been replaced when head gasket was (about 75 miles ago) (not 75K miles but 75 miles) Black only on the electrode part.

Compression test done. Results...#4=200psi,#3=195psi,#2=200psi,#1=100psi. That test explained alot. I should have done it to start with. I don't want to pull the head again so I guess it is time to sell and hope for the best.

I wouldn't think it is the head gasket as it was just replaced 75 miles ago and the adjacent cylinder is fine on the compression test. I am leaning toward build up on the valves or the valve itself. THe car runs fine just throws the code when the engine is cold. I might just drive it until it turns over and dies. How long do you think it could last like it is?

well.... it always depends from ur budget

got some money? (1-3K) then get a new car and leave the one u have and put it on internet/locally for like lets say 700-1000$, a car with problems is not worth more

if i would be you i would take it apart and check the valves if they are leaking simply by shining the light threw while u watch the other side for some light... cheap way out on ur wallet

idk if its going to tell u whats wrong with 1st cylinder but just squirt some oil in the cylinder 1 wait few seconds and do the compression testing again on that cylinder

check on google for engine compression testing, should give u full articles of that
