nice, i just got one question, how ur going to put the turbo on? like welding it? or what? custom mani?
Re: rodd1s' Lanos [updates on first post]
good question, although im pretty sure ive covered this before... lol. but i'll explain further...buddha102 wrote:nice, i just got one question, how ur going to put the turbo on? like welding it? or what? custom mani?
you know the lanos manifold has a triangular shaped flange that connects to the rest of the exhaust, well the turbocharger unit also has a triangular flange on the hot side. the first hole from the manifold - closest to the engine block - is obviously a direct match for the turbo (as there is only one hole to match up), the next hole along - counterclockwise - is a close match, but will need made bigger/longer for it to match, then the last hole - counterclockwise again, nearest the oil filter - is nowhere near and will need a new hole drilled. a few pages back you can see from the pictures what the turbo's exhaust flange looks like.
i was quite lucky realy to find a turbo with an almost matching manifold flangey - eliminates the need for an adapter or custom manifold. if it werent as easy a fit as this i'd either weld it or make a custom manifold.
edit: here's a pick of the turbo's flange: http://img33.imageshack.us/i/1505091108.jpg/

what kind of turbo is it? I searched on ebay for "k14 turbo" and got only the rebuilt kit? Sorry rod, im going to copy ur design

haha. cheaters. jk. so im guess (rodd) the right side of the turbo picture, is where the exhaust gas will come out, after going through the spindle?
from the picture.. the flange doesnt even seem to be big enough, but good luck.

to get a better idea or to put it all to scale, once ive got the manifold off the car i'll get a picture to show ya, cos the 2 flanges are actually quite close in size. and yes, to the right of where the triangle flange is, theres an 'elbow' pipe which connects to the downpipe.wolfsreign wrote:haha. cheaters. jk. so im guess (rodd) the right side of the turbo picture, is where the exhaust gas will come out, after going through the spindle?

ebay is a bit useless for finding a complete kkk k14 specifically from a pug 306, and more chances than often you'd get a generic unit with the rectangular flange.
by all means, do copy the idea/design cos it makes life easier for evryone...
for those who want to know what turbo this is, its the KKK K14 from a Peugeot 306 DTurbo (turbodiesel), but double check it's the right turbocharger on the car, because half of the pug 306 dturbo's came with a garret (t25 i think) instead of the K14 and may well have a different exhaust flange. also, the K14 has an adjustable wastegate actuator where the garret unit didnt - and the K14 unit is apparently capable of 18psi, running 12psi as standard - so i'll need to wind it right down to start with then work up from there.
edit: here's the link for more info about the pug 306 1.9 diesel and the turbochargers: http://www.club-306.com/guides/306_turbo_tuning

got bored today, so i raised my bonnet half inch... wanted to go for one inch, but there were some clearance issues.
i mite start the turbo build soon (ie: this week) if the weather gets a bit better.

they have some turbos in US Ebay but they are all 4 bolt ones, no triangular shape ones, and does any1 know what other turbos got triangular shape?
btw, any benefits of raising the hood more? lol

Re: rodd1s' Lanos [updates on first post]
hood spacers allow more air to flow ove the engine keeping things cooler
Re: rodd1s' Lanos [updates on first post]
best way to find out which cars use turbos with triangle shape flanges are to go to a breakeryard where you can walk/look around freely and have a good look around any factory turbocharged car u can find.
and the raised bonnet/hood... well 'mofo said it, allows more airflow for cooling which kinda helps with a turbo under there cos they give off a lot of heat obviously.

after a quick skim through google etc, subaru impreza wrx between 1992 and 2001 with the GC8 chassis (4-door sedan) also used a triangular flange for the turbo, and that was with the TD05 t'charger.buddha102 wrote:... and does any1 know what other turbos got triangular shape?

how did u raised the hood? did u put bigger washers?
bah, i only find turbos with 4 bolts... so im ending up doing it custom for my car

Re: rodd1s' Lanos [updates on first post]
copper pipe and a pipe cutter... this way u can raise it as much as u want, as the lengths of the pipe dictates how high u want it. just use longer bolts in accordance to how long the pipe spacers are.buddha102 wrote:how did u raised the hood? did u put bigger washers?

Re: rodd1s' Lanos [updates on first post]
had to test out some new welding rods today... and i had a exhaust rear silencer from a VW polo mk4 laying around, and after inspecting it i realised its got a completely different layout to the daewoo backbox and thought i'd put it on the lanos and see what its like... wow! its not too loud, but not dead quiet... its just right... got a little grunt, but not too much. inside the car it sounds like my mother's porsche boxster. lol
VW Polo mk4 backboxes i'd recommend if u dont want anything crazy and have already removed the mid silencer/resonator.

got the new rear silencer for the side-exit today with pipe reducer...
havnt started any work yet, but tempted to start on exhaust work next week, ie: mounting turbo to manifold, getting the downpipe done, relocating the cat and sensors around it etc. oh yeah and need to make brackets for the intercooler, but ive got enough scrap metal round for that.
