Timing belt / water pump kits on ebay

Post by simon609zp »

My Lanos is coming up on 120000 miles and it is time to change the timing belt again.

I see these kits on ebay for about $100 give or take a few dollars. Has anyone had any experience with any of these, good or bad?

Let me know . . .

i got mine off of ebay, no problems at all. I got all my stuff from the same guy on ebay when my timing belt went, i say replace it sooner then later, causes a lot more problems if they go out. put my lanos in the garage with no motor in it for about a month and a half. was not good. I paid a little over $100 for the belt and pump and seals and all that good stuff

When I saw how much the individual components from Gates were, I decided to spend the extra $70 on the Gates products figuring the ebay kits may not be the greatest quality. I got Gates stuff from O'Reilly Auto Parts - not sure if they are nation wide. Anyhow, it's changed and I hope I am all good for another 60K miles.

How many miles do people have on these cars now??? Has anyone got to a 3rd timing belt replacement on the Lanos??

I'm at almost 130,000 only been replaced once, which was in january thanks to my last owners not changing it. it stripped down on me in the middle of nowhere. it was not all that great. I think I will be replacing mine every 50,000 just to be on the safe side.

I'm at 170,000 miles and getting ready to do my third tb change. My little woo has been through hell and back. By that I mean, I've smacked the rear side into a guard rail and completly crushed the rear passenger side. I could literally put my hand in through the tail light and wave at the driver lol. I also had to fix the gas cap as it was sitting against the shock tower. After the wreck, if it rained I had at least three inches of water in my spare tire well. I got that fixed now...a little sheet metal and some bondo can work miracles on a completely ruined quarter panel. Anyway, I've ran my woo hard for 6 years now and if a woo can survive me then they should be able to survive anyone.
