New to Woo!!

Ok guys. I am new to the Woo world so I need as much help as possible. I bought a 2001 Lanos Hb for $800.00 this weekend. I am really execited about this car and I was hoping to see good potential for it. I know it has only been 4 days, but already I am seeing that finding parts for this car in the states is difficult. Some help would be good. Type and treat me like a noob, since that is what I am, a woo noob.

I am more a 350 chevy guy so bear with me.

I want to work on the exhaust first, so I think that I am going to get a universal Skunk2 muffler from Ebay and make my own cat back with that (cant find a catback anywhere else), I also need to do the headers at the same time. I am having no luck with that. What other headers can I use from another car? I am looking for a direct bolt on. or very minor modification. Do the Aveo headers work on these engines? Are they the exact same blocks?

What else do I need to know, or what else do you need to know to help me with this project?

there are lots of ways to do the headers for our cars. you can actually use a honda d16 header but you have to enlarge the bolt holes so that it will bolt up...and it has to be the oval port version. or you can get a header flange and make your own. If you can find a 1.6 aveo header it should bolt right up but be careful because some are made for manual gearbox only.

Well the search will be ongoing. I can see a variety of d16 headers, but I cannot see what kind of ports they are. Also when I look at the header, it looks different than the one below.

This one has an extra bolt to the far right, it looks like a metal extension if you will. The d16 headers don't have that. Atleast not the ones I was looking at on EBAY and Summitracing.com.

The ones that xiaogary has look good, but a $350 dollar price tag and no carb #'s is kinda risky. California Smog laws are the toughest there is, I guess I can always save the original manifold and change it for the smog test.

So the Honda/Acura d16 headers will work as long as they are the oval ports, not the B16 right? Cause I saw another thread and someone else said the b16.

could be b16...i'll check...

you're in cali? if so don't do it with a honda header cause it eliminates the egr valve. If you want a cheap way to get a better flowing exhaust take off the first cat directly after the manifold and have it modified by punching a hole through it and making it look stock but in reality you've no longer got the first cat. then you don't have to worry about the cali emissions looking at it and saying it's modified and doesn't pass emissions. then install a high flow cat in place of the second cat and a nice muffler and maybe upgrade to a little bigger piping. You can also take the factory air intake and modify the box so that it will function as a cold air intake and look stock...I'll get pics of mine if you want.

all said and done though these mods are probably only gonna get you 5-10 hp. If you want bigger gains you can do cams, higher compression etc and push the little 1.6 to around 160 hp naturally aspirated and still look stock on the outside. I don't know if it would pass the emissions test but I'm 90% sure it could be tuned to pass it and retuned after the test.

Is your cold air intake setup the one with the hole on the box and the tubing that leads to the fog lamp insert? If it is, then I have seen it. That was the best one I saw.

This is my daily driver and I want to get as much power our of it without getting into the internals (at this time ofcourse). That is why I wanted to see if there were any bolt on parts from other cars that I can use. I will most likely go with the hacking of the first cat and a high flow cat with bigger pipping leading to a Skunk2 muffler. The bigger piping was already planned for.

I got some more questions, but I think they need to be asked in the right topic area, such as interior (short Shifter) and exaterior (wheels sizes and what over car make wheels fit this car)

For info, the aveo header I am selling allows egr to be recirculated. It does not remove the egr function. So do not need to be afriad of failing the emission test.

lol, i love how he has 4 muscle cars then this pewny 1.6l lanos. :P
cali does suck mate. anyway.. i would just get xiaogary's exhaust mani, then switch when it comes to testing.
most people go straight pipes and such.. just know that if you want that muscle car deep sound.. you gotta get it tuned just right.. b.c itll prob sound like a tractor or a boat my friends like to call it.
you can try and switch to a CAI without the box.. as i did.. no CARB tag came with the filter.. (spectra red) and the smog guy said its fine. lol. also he didnt care about my straight piping either. (wasnt even welded) just go to the same guy/girl you always go to, as they would be nice to just do it anyway.
if you want ultamite power, and bang for ur buck, NOS the shit out of it. prob blow the engine to pieces but hey!. or turbo it, there are many many turbo build on here, and some are still in progress, from low boost to hella high 12psi boost's
another cheap and easy thing is the new iridium spark plugs.. 8$ a plug down here. good thing its only a 4cyl
also some good wires. could do daewoomofo's 8mm fit then cut way.
and is ur HB a A/T or M/T?
future reference the aveo and lanos have the same engine and tranny.

as for body kits and other stuff, very rare to get stuff in the states.. as daewoo has been bought out.. and plus its a korean car.. >.<
