Replaced my cone filter

Post by MMamdouh »

i have replaced my cone filter on my CAI setup after using it for some 75k kms and about 3 years...

the old filter was made in china and cost me 55LE (10USD) only... it has been used on both dad's car and my car, soaked in power steering fluid throughout its life, washed some 8 or 9 times with water and dish soap/engine degreaser and with the dusty conditions we have... I'd say it was really abused... here it how it looks after last cleanup which was only some 15k kms:

the new filter is also Chinese made and cost 50LE (9.09 USD) and as usual i have soaked it in power steering fluid to increase its effecency as far as catching fine dust is concerned as we have dusty conditions all the year:

filter installed at wheel well where the OEM resonator used to be for sucking cold air... and also i have ported the fog light trim to give air supply from the front of the car to the filter:

LOL, no wonder it was full of "dust" lol. its like sitting in the dirt.
very nice though.. mine is like urs, but its "spectra" it was about $21.00 (USD)

why not use an actual recharge kit on the filter? like a K&N kit?

it is a purely financial decision... the kit cost as much as a new Chinese filter... and as far as i know the K&N kit is simply a cleaner and oil... i got effective substitute for both

hey MM
I found when i had a snorkel going into that part of the guard (i.e. that far back from the fog light "hole"), it was a real area of negative pressure. Performance dropped for me until i moved the pick up to right at the mouth of the fog light hole. I noticed an increase in response at speed from the "ram air effect".

Just thought you might like to try :D

oh, and that filter is hektik... must have half the sahara in that thing
