? about lanos engine management
What aftermarket ECUs or engine management is usable with a lanos? more importantly small engine'd naturally aspirated daewoos.
im not looking to buy anything just yet, im just looking to gather info or links to companies that produce compatible hardware that isnt stupidly priced.
it can be anything from a plug n play system, or one that requires a bit of work/manipulation to connect to the car. ideally im also looking for something that is tunable to a good extent, and that possibly gives some feedback/info from the engine and other sensors etc (altho that isnt highly necessary, as OBD can probly be used for monitoring etc).
i know there are several threads where other people have used aftermarket ecus and such, but thought maybe we could make a list of available system in one place to make it all easier to find.
any relative info/links appreciated, cheers guys!

Cargo cultism is a beautiful thing as long as you never fall for it.
Do you know what the ECU Service number is in the Lanos?, I have yet to play with one. It possibly could be pretty close to another GM ECU...but there is a endless possibilites that you could do; MegaSquirt. Haltech EMS. THere is also piggy back systems but i wouldnt waste my money on one, some ppl see them as the "cure all" tho . YOu could also run a GM 7749 ECM on the car, it takes a bit of work but its better than any aftermarket system out there ( It comes stock on the sunbird turbos over here, and i have it successfuly running on a Nubira 2.0L). You being in the UK you'd probably have to import stuff. if you want to see whats possible w/ the '7749 ecm or just get a general idea of what possibly could be done http://www.code59.org is the website. But i'd look into seeing how "tunable" the ECU you have now is and then go from there.

attempting to tune the stock ecu is something ive looked into many times and asked many tuning companies about, the msot recent one being a company called Angel Tuning, who claim they can remap standard ecus for all/most cars produced after 2001 (mine's a late 2002/early 2003 model), but the reply i got from them was the same as 2 or 3 other ecu "remappers" ive asked eg: they cant/wont work with a daewoo.
over the last couple of years there have been plenty of talk here and there about doing a "ghetto" remap and apparently someone had done it using a TX83 calculator with self-written software and a few spliced cables etc, but when i asked him about how exactly i never got a reply.
if there were more info available on modifying the standard ecu i'd use it gladly, but i dont want to twat around with the ecu in my car until i know it can be done, ive kept a lookout for ecu's out of a lanos on ebay and such, but still no luck yet.
i bought a book by Greg Banish called "Engine Management: Advanced Tuning" on amazon, which looks at modifying non-aftermarket ecus apparently, so when i receive that i'll read thru it to see whether it can enlighten me on some more questions i have.

You're going to get that responce from a lot of companies cause the car isnt "main stream". its like if you owned a Yugo, they break all the time but if you wanted to get someone to work on it , thats a totally different story.
If you can get me your ECU number ill gladdly look into tuning the ECU for you. I can hook it up to a test bench and see what can be done.
Uh, i don't know how the tuning book will work for you, it will probably give you vauge info on things thats about it.

Where in Ontario are you located? I have a spare Optra ECU, and it would be awesome if someone could crack into it.RSZT4 wrote:You're going to get that responce from a lot of companies cause the car isnt "main stream". its like if you owned a Yugo, they break all the time but if you wanted to get someone to work on it , thats a totally different story.

But it looks like me and exist3nce might be working on the optra ECU see what we can come up with.
