If the battery is primarily used for starting, then yes, get the red top.
If you have a big stereo system, get the yellow top.

Personally, I would get an SVR battery over an Optima because they are more efficient, have a faster, full amperage discharge rate for my stereo system, and have a higher amperage rating for the same size battery.

If you can not get an SVR battery locally, then get the Optima, they are much better than the stock batteries.

The red top batteries indeed have a superb capacity for cold starts/huge stereo systems, however they do have a weak point too...its their weight. They are just about 50% heavier than your 'average' car battery. More weight = less speed = less fun :) On a 1/4 mile, this makes one hell of a difference

I didn't think about the weight at all.

Since I am not trying to make my car fast, the thought didn't cross my mind. I was thinking about the battery from the stereo point of view.

If you are relocating the main starting battery to the back of the car, it may be an idea to use 0ga welding wire, which is around $1.50ish a foot.

I buy 20 feet at a time and it always comes up to $27.15 after tax, so before tax, I am paying $1.29 per foot. :)

0ga cable will give you less loss due to resistance over a long run from the back of the car up to the starter.

Give it a try; it can't hurt anything.

They sell battery relocation kits pretty cheap...They come with an ABS Plastic box with tie downs, all the wiring (positive and negative), vents for any built up gas.

They do cost like $40-$50ish but they work well and give a pretty clean look...

Just an idea, if you are already going to be buying wire at $27. :)

The nice thing about the Optima batteries are they are gasless & ventless and can be mounted at any angle; on their side, on ther end or even upside down.
They will not leak acid so they don't need a plastic box to catch anything that comes out like a regular lead acid liquid filled battery.

Right, thats the claim to fame of Optima, but I'm saying, with the box, it looks nice and clean, and you don't just have a battery stickin' out like a sore thumb in the hatch. Also, It may be kinda hard to tie the battery down without the box...

As for the wire size, I'm not awfully sure, but I'll look into it.

Ok...

I looked, very superficial search on Ebay (Yes, the warehouse of (mostly) crap) they do have some decent looking kits for $49.00 plus $12.50 shipping. The wires look maybe 4 or 6 guage, 20 ft positive 3 ft negative. But I'm guessing you could put any size wire you want.
