Does the Optra 5 use H7 bulbs?

Post by PrecisionBoost »

It's too damned cold out for me( -24 deg C ) to look at the bulbs right now.... does anyone know if the Optra 5 uses an H7 bulb.

For some reason I was thinking it did, but I wanted to see if anyone could confirm so I could pick some up tommorow on my way to my shop.

For sure the regular optra uses H7, but not sure about the optra5 with projectors. You might want to have a look at the outside of the headlight assembly....... theres small etched writing in the bottom of the clear front lense. In that area it has the safety certifications etc, and on mine also says the bulb type.

It's too cold to look.... it was like -30 this morning.... I'm not sure about the projectors either.... but I picked up some H7's just in case.... hopefully sometime this weekend I will get a chance to pull it into my shop and take a look.

It's suppose to be nice next week.... by monday it's supposed to be -8 and eventually it will get above freezing next week some time.... so that will be nice for a change.... we've been pretty cold out here for a good couple of weeks.

Everyone whines about global warming... I say screw you all... I'm going to dump as much CO2 as possible and warm up this deepfreeze :) just joking.

haha -30 is pretty cold ..... we go down into the -20s often enough, but rarely -30.

I thought you sold or returned the optra5?

Well..... my guess was right..... they are H7 bulbs.

As far as the optra 5..... I bought it back from the friend I sold it to in May of 2008.

I needed a winter car because my Mazdaspeed 3 is scary even with winter tires on all four corners

I have to shift at 1700 RPM in the MS3 or else I spin the tires.... it's awesome in the summer.... but it definitely was not designed with winter in mind ( thus the reason why it came with "summer" tires instead of all season radials)

I also have my old Lanos (2002) but I gave the engine to Tom to replace the one in the silver lanos I sold him ( connecting rod was bent )

I ended up taking apart a 1.6L SOHC and installed the 1.5L SOHC head onto that block.... then I put it into the red lanos.

That was supposed to be my winter vehicle but after all that work I found out the oil pump was shot so I have no oil pressure at all.

I've been driving it around the yard for the last year or two with zero oil pressure and it still runs!

It's starting to get hard to turn over.... so eventually it will seize up.... which isn't a problem because that engine will go to the scrap yard one of these days.

I have a newer 1.6L DOHC Aveo engine kicking around (among other engines) so I might eventually throw it into the Lanos.

I will probably keep the Optra 5 as a winter car since it's in decent condition and only has 45,000 km on it.

I've been looking at the Audi R8's..... I really like them.... especially the sound the engine makes.

So..... odds are I will probably always need a winter car to drive around... and the optra fits that perfectly

or you can move to Egypt where it goes as low as 13C in the coldest nights... and make use of the sunny and warm mornings tuning the +100,000 daewoos around here :D

Im a little surprised to hear that since my brother has a MS3 and its pretty damn good in the snow with the traction control, id say its even better then my aveo. He also has 4 winter tires mounted on steelies.

Our winters are different than yours..... in snow the car behaves just fine.... but our roads are slick hard packed ice most of the time.... it rarely gets warm enough to get rid of it until spring.

We get far less snow than you guys but our temperatures are usually 10 degrees or more lower than yours.

That is to say -10 deg C makes it feel like it's spring time here. :0

On ice the MS3 is horrible.... the traction control just makes it worse.... with traction control the car might take 3 or 4 seconds to get through an intersection.... if however you have the traction control off and spin the tires quickly then shift into second or third gear the tires will bite and pull you through the intersection.

My Optra has winter tires.... I do the same thing ( spin them slightly and drop to the next gear ) and it gets around as good as my 4X4 Suburban.

It's just a matter of torque.... my MS3 made 300 lbft of torque at the wheels on the dyno.... the Optra only makes about 125 lbft

Northern Canada has it's negatives but there are a lot of good things come summer time.

Myself... I don't like heat over +30 deg C..... so I don't think I'd like Egypt much considering how hot you guys get.

In the summer we tend to get daytime highs around +25 to +30 deg C

The cool thing about living in the far north is that the summer days are really long.... the sun comes up around 4am and doesn't go down until 11pm

Of course in winter that means the sun doesn't come up until 9am and it goes down at 4pm..... but it's cold anyways.... so there is not that much to do outside.

I agree, summer is real nice here, long days, in eastern ontario sun gets up around 4:30-5am and sets around 9:30pm wish averages of 25 degrees C, of course we get the humidity, sometimes it feels like 40 outside and the air is very heavy and hard to breathe, which also means alot of insects and god d**m mosquitos! Most of the time its nice tho.

One nice thing about Alberta is that were a desert in the winter..... this year there is only about 12" of snow total... most days are clear blue skies.... just like in the summer.

It doesn't usually melt then snow... then rain... then snow... then freeze... then snow... then melt... then rain like it does out in southern, ontario.

It snows here and there adding 1 or 2 inches at a time usually.... mostly cold dry days all the way into late February.

I suppose weather in Hawkesbury is more like Ottawa.... not so up and down all the time.

I have a big supplier in Kanata (now Ottawa ) and a few years back they sent out three guys to go out into the oil field and see how certain types of work are performed.

It was early June and I kid you not we had weather right around freezing with a freak snow storm that quickly turned into rain!

They were wearing these thin summer coats and froze their asses off!

I had to laugh about it and told them "only in Alberta will you see such wonderful changes in weather"

A few weeks earlier it had been something like +28 to +34 for a whole week.

Here it can go from -28 deg C one day to +1 deg C and then back down to -20 deg C all in a span of 48 hours.

In the summer time we have lots of sun.... so despite being north.... it can actually be warmer than some of the places far south of us.
