Mistery air intake pipe from resonator

Post by Carr »

I have just removed the primary intake resonator on my 2.0L J150 Nubira and was confused as to what this pipe is for. It runs from the resonator in the front right fender and connects to the upper right of the wheel arch. From what i could work out, it goes to a small cavity between the strut and doesn't appear to connect to anywhere.

Your factory air intake takes air from up in the fender...that pipe which then leads into the resonator and then into the air filter and then to the motor. It's simply the factory air intake.

I thought it may have been. This is the worst intake system I have ever seen in a car. As far as I could tell, the area it goes to is sealed on at least 3 sides and is not much bigger than my hand. This may help explain why my engine doesn't like to rev high, it can't get enough air. I am glad I have removed it now, the engine should get much better air flow.

It's actually able to pull more air now...and without the resonator it allows you to hear all of the sounds that the factory intake system hid from you. The hissing is just how much air your engine is consuming while the revs are coming back down. While you are giving it gas you get the throaty sound cause you can hear the engine working...it's louder than the air.
