Well i went to the shop this morning to snap a few pics of the engine.

A good wash and its gonna be just like new, looks like its been well maintained, 74000km (I bought a new Gates timing belt for the motor, gonna change it while we have it on the ground, that way gonna be safe for a while) I was surprised to see a FRAM oil filter on there, those are more expensive then the "usual" ones, a sign that the person who had it musta took take of the motor. Up to now im pretty satisfied, the car is gonna be towed in tomorow morning and work should start sometime next week!

One thing im wondering about, its obvious im gonna need a new serpentine belt, since im using the 1.6L's accesories, do i get a belt for a 1.6L or a belt for a 2.0L?

Did you get the starter motor with the engine? If not, do get one fast. 1.6 starter does not fit the 2.0 block. I can't say about the serpentine belt..from the looks of it, you did not receive (not on the photo) the front mounting flange, where both the serpentine belt tensioner and the power steering pump is attached to (as well as A/C pump). 1.6 alternator may work...but still you need means to get the rest of the accessories attached.

I havent cheked if the flange was there, its real hard to see in the pics, ill take a look tomorow, i need to return an exhaust manifold they sent extra, they had told me no mani was on the engine so i had then send me one but there was in fact one on the engine, when i return the extra one ill just get a starter motor, wont be much price difference so its not a problem.

Looks like they removed the alternator with all the brackets..... which sucks for you because you need both the alternator and the brackets.

Lower engine mount is missing.... along with the power steering pump, tensioner and bracket ( which GsiTurbo pointed out )

Personally I would negotiate to get all the accessories, brackets and mounts that came off that engine..... it will be very hard to make it work without the brackets.

For some reason I think the number of grooves (thus width of the belt ) in the 2.0L and 1.6L pullies are different.... so I don't think it's possible to use the 1.6L components without modification of the pullies ( don't quote me on this..... I'm not entirely sure of that )

The starter is far more valuable than the manifold..... I think you will have a hard time getting any money on a trade in.

I also don't see much in the way of a wiring harness.... that makes me wonder how many sensors were removed off the engine.

Given all the things they removed.... I'm surprised they left you the coil pack.... which is worth quite a bit of money.

Making slow progress, i just got a call from my shop, seems the 1.6L flywheel does not fit the 2.0L, the holes on the 1.6L are smaller and dont line up with the pattern on the 2.0 block so hes gonna call in for a 2.0L flywheel in exchange for the extra manifold i have.

Its hard when you "almost" pionner something hehe so many unexpected things

you should have expected this since
the 1.6L and 2.0/2.2L engines are different engines different platforms
just get a 2.0/2.2L flywheel pressure plate and disc

that is very interesting, it's always been thought that the 1.6 and 2.0 used the same bolt pattern.

hey I need a lanos flywheel, before you send it in let me know if we can work something out. I could also supply you with the carbon/kevlar clutch kit with deep discount for the exchange.

I think I told you the patterns were the same, sorry for the misinformation.

cheers

I thought they were the same as well.... is it possible that the Aveo 1.6L and Lanos 1.6L are slightly different ?

I just talked to GSiTurbo and he thought they were the same as well..... so that's three of us.

I have an Aveo here at my shop.... and I have a couple spare flywheels from the 2.0L/2.2L.... so I will check and confirm fitment today.

Yes..... there are definitly differences.... bolt holes are a different size and the pattern is ever so slightly different.

Visually they look identical until you get them up close against each other and start measuring with calipers

I do however wonder if perhaps the Aveo flywheel were to be drilled out if it would fit on the 2.0L engine

I'm going to go get a transparency and draw the holes to compare.... since the orientation is very specific.... the flywheel only lines up in one orientation.... so you can't put them back to back and compare.

Nope.... enlarging holes won't work... the radius is ever so slightly different ( 1/16" ?? )

Here is the transparency overlay.... you would have to machine an oval to increase the radius and then redrill with the same size as the 2.0L/2.2L flywheel.

leganza is on the left.... aveo on the right

It's probably cheaper to simply source a 2.0L flywheel instead of trying to modify the 1.6L Aveo flywheel.

I don't have a lanos 1.6L DOHC block.... and I got rid of of my 1.5L SOHC and 1.6L SOHC blocks.... so I can't compare an Aveo vs Lanos

GSiTurbo just weighed the flywheels.... the Aveo is 8.5Kg and Leganza is 9.5Kg.
