i know. a friend of mine has a garret t2 (£50 ebay) that he bought to use with his vw camper (wishful thinking, cos he says a lot of things he never does) so i made him an offer to take it off his hands if he doesnt use it in the end. other than that i'm always keeping a look out on ebay for a good offer to come by, like the time i missed out on bidding for a td04 charger that ended up being sold for £21 (99p for the charger, £20 delivery lol)mr_g wrote:Turbocharger is better solution that supercharger...Rodd1s wrote:cheers, AborteK.

progress is gonna be going slow for the next 3 months. moving back in on campus at uni in 2 days, so i'll be away from home, my working space and all my tools
got some plans for the front bumper for when i get my next big break if im at home over the holidays... further plans/ideas may be revealed soon.
not sure what to do about engine tuning... still swayed towards a supercharger - but they're expensive, and i wont be at work much whilst at university, so not a lot of money coming in.
if i can pick up a turbocharger for cheap enough i'd tear it apart and make a supercharger out of it (heard of it done before)

Cargo cultism is a beautiful thing as long as you never fall for it.
just installed the HID headlamps... they're bright as can be.
only took an hour to do, so its not the neatest job in the world, still need to tidy up the wiring etc, but had to rush it for a big cruise tonite. i'll take some pictures once it gets dark.

never got round to taking any pictures of my own car last nite, spent too much time drooling over all the other cars lol, that cruise even made its way to local news and BBC Radio1 last nite and there were plenty of photographers, so im gona keep an eye out for nxt months fastcar magazine to see if any of my mates' cars got in there.
anyways, bk to the HIDs, think i got the bulbs in the wrong way round the first time cos i looked at the diagram the wrong way round so the projected light was far off where it should be, so i swapped 'em over this afternoon and looks almost spot-on now... i hope.
edit: nope, was wrong again, seems changing the bulbs round didnt change anything. will have to wait til friday to try and resolve the problem.

are u using the HID kit in the original headlight housing? or did u get lenses to use with it?Big Jeff wrote:i have 6000k single beam
if ur still using the original headlight housing, is the light pattern still the same? cos mine's miles off.

doesnt matter how much i adjust it, it still gives a completely wrong light pattern.Big Jeff wrote:i still use the original headlight unit wit a HID kid
but had to ajust the angle (up & down, left & right)
ive done some research and found out that not all reflector type headlights work with HID bulbs cos of the extra light, but its strange how onw daewoo works with it and another doesnt, mite be that they changed the headlights between the 2 different lanoses... altho, i mite be able to get some headlights off a '99 lanos if this is the case. otherwise i'm just gona sell them on.
ive taken 'em out for now and put in the closest bulbs i had laying around which are the old 60/55w ones (and theyre crap compared to the HID's amount of light) but will put the 100/80w rally bulbs in again at the weekend and speak to my MOT mechanic about whether they are pass-able on MOT.
if i were to go for a full HID with projector conversion i'm looking at another £150 odd quid... which isnt an option at the moment.

from the look of those headlight "housings" (?) they are exactly the same as mine, and the light projected from urs looks a lot more even with none of it going high up at funny angles like mine did, where as mine had some very distinct light and dark patches, with some of it being projected in the wrong places. have u put ur car thru an MOT with the HIDs yet? i compared the HID bulb to plain filament bulbs, and everything is where it should be, i did at one point think maybe it sits too far in or not far enough.
over the weekend i'll put em back in and try get a picture that shows just how "off" my light pattern is.

Found the problem with the HID kit...
... the bulbs, or more specifically, the shields that cover half of the lamp on the H4 bulbs. it doesnt cover the bulbs enough, which is why there is extra light in the wrong areas.
i tried to bend one shield closer to the bulb, but damaged the high beam filament lamp, so i'm looking into some "higher quality" hid bulbs that have the correct light shield.
otherwise i'll just have to solder an extra piece of metal onto it to make the shield complete.

Finally got an aftermarket backbox/muffler welded in place... which, technically speaking, only cost me £12 lol.
havnt got any pics or videos of the final result yet, but here are the specs:
stainless steel jap-style with 2.5" inlet & 3.5" exit
this backbox combined with the lack of a central silencer makes one helluva noise, and a nice one at that.
only problem at the minute is that exhaust hanging bracket behind the box needs to be cut off and ive bought a new bolt-on one to go in its place cos of where the pipe now sits more to one side its jamming against the left rear suspension spring, but that should be sorted out this coming saturday.
guess i could now say ive got a custom cat-back exhaust system.
