auto to manual conversion

Post by daewooluvr »

Hey all,
I have a 2000 Lanos auto that I'd like to swap out to the D16 transmisison.

Does anyone know if the trans mounts are the same for the auto and manual transmisisons?
Will the manual transmission bolt right up to the engine?
Will the auto drive shafts work with the manual trans?

Here's what I think I need so far:
D16 Trans
Possibly Trans mounts
Shifter Assembly
Pedal Assembly

Is the pedal assembly cable driven or hydrolic?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cargo cultism is a beautiful thing as long as you never fall for it.

I'm pretty sure the mount are the same but the bracket is different, just the one over the gearbox. the one to the right side up against the firewall is the same.
the bolt pattern to the engine is the same.
I'm pretty sure you will need the driveshafts as well.

along with the list you have there you might need the concole as well, can't say for sure.

What do you mean by the bracket over the gearbox?

Also if the D16 uses a hydrolic system then I guess I'll need all those parts too:
Clutch Slave Cylinder
Clutch Master Cylinder
all the lines, ... ect.

ugh. I wonder if it'd be easier to pick up a manual lanos and just swap the two... that way I have everything in the other one...

actually I don't think it's over the transmission now that I think (that's just the nubira, forenza...) there is a rubber motor mount that mounts to the chassis and from there, there is a bracket between it and the gearbox, that is what would have to replaced. ...I think!

it is hydraulic but you can go one of two ways. you can use the setup from the lanos or the mechanical system from the lemans.

if you could find one it would be easier to buy a 5 speed lanos.

I have an auto in my current lanos. I'd like a 5sp and if I get another Lanos I'd have everything I need without worrying about what parts I am missing to do the swap.

I could then possibly swap the auto into the other lanos and sell it.

I know, I've been talking to him about it but it wouldn't include everything I need and by the time I buy it and pay for the shipping I can probably get a wrecked Lanos for.

Things are still up in the air.
