i know at times it doesn't take much but i'm confused. none of our R90 motor have come with VVT and the standard ECOTEC in the States hasn't been smaller then 2.0.

my question is are we getting VVT in 08 or is the 'other' ecotec getting smaller?

Couple notes here...

1. NA will NOT get the VXR for this generation Astra

2. The engine is a bored 1.6L for this generation ONLY, when it changes over in 2009 it will be the same ecotec as the Solstice/Cobalt/Sky/etc

cobalt ecotec > :tfrag: < VXR ecotec

i don't really keep up with the 1.6's, is it based on the same 1.6 from the Aveo, Lanos...?

The specs show it as the same bore centers as the 1.6L but it's a 1.8L engine. It's also a cast iron block meaning it comes from Australia, Malaysia, or Korea... directly related to the Daewoo/Opel motors versus the aluminum ones in the current gen ecotecs on this side of the pond.

:? wonder why of all the different iron blocks the 1.6 platform was chosen.

o-well it's still going to be cool to see it and you know it's only a matter of time before Chris and Tom are stuffing some iron 2.0 in one!

Uhhhh.... the thought had crossed our minds a couple billion times

I allready mentioned a bit about the 1.8L being a stroked 1.6L.... so that means the the VVT can be adapted for use on the Lanos/Aveo engines.

I didn't hear that they were getting rid of the 1.8L and going to an aluminum Ecotec...... but I suppose it only makes sense.

I belive that the engine is actually manufactured in Romania or Hungary (can't remember)

Here is a link about a recent bit of info on the Saturn Astra......... http://media.gm.com/us/gm/en/news/event ... cement.htm

I sent that to GsiTurbo a couple hours ago... the Astra has an Electro Hydraulic power steering system.... so he might be able to use it on his Lemans (which is currently without power steering)

Here is a site that shows the Astra's EHPS system (they rebuild them) http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?c ... r_steering

I still have to think that the Astra Redline may come out with the Z20LEH ( astra VXR engine ) at some point...... but there is no way to know with GM.... they flip flop on stuff like this all the time.

I have to think that the biggest issue is that they don't want to overshadow the Saturn Sky Redline with it's turbo aluminum ecotec.... which makes less power than the VXR.

So even if they did bring over the Z20LEH it would probably be detuned to 200hp or some crap like that.
