Hi everyone
I know I've not posted here in quite a while, but I am still around, still have my 2002 Lanos hatchback and my 2001 Leganza
The Lanos now has a little over 130,000 miles and the Leganza has around 96,000 miles.
Sadly, the laws here changed and I had to remove my silver mirror window tint. It took me getting two tint tickets before I actually removed it.
On a brighter note, I picked up an excellent condition 2002 Lanos hatchback with 88,000 miles for $400USD.
The timing belt broke while the previous owner was stopped and idle at a stop sign.
When the belt broke, the engine just stopped.
I have removed the head and can not see any damage to the cylinders, pistons or any other part of the half of the engine below the head.
Turning the motor over, the cylinders move perfectly and do not look as though there is any damage of any kind.
All I need now is to rebuild the head, which that also looks like there is very little damage of any kind.
I can not see any marks of any kind where the valves may have hit the pistons; everything looks amazingly undamaged.
The previous owner also bought a new water pump and timing belt, so when I put everything back together, I already have the parts!
I will post pics of the car either this evening or tomorrow when I have some free time.

Is there a way to test to see if the valves are bent?

Cliff my man.. were have you been???
i was afraid that you may have gone to Iraq or so
nice find for the woo... 400USD for a car is dirt cheap compared to here... if i got a used engine for the woo it would cost me more than this
odds are their are some bent valves... just turn the head up side down and pour some gas in each compartment and see if it leaks...
again so glad to hear you are safe and sound

Re: Saying HI and other Daewoo related stuff
The head is off and totally stripped and cleaned.
Some of the valves are indeed bent and several of the valve guides are split and expanded where the valves bent.
I need to find valve guides and valves at a price that will not make me need to sell my unborn children. LOL
Also needed is a manual so I can have toque specs and see how everything goes back together properly.
Will I need an arbor press to remove & reinstall the valve guides?

Mohammad - it is also good to hear from you. I hope all has been well. I have just been working, helping my parents now that they are older, going to university and trying to spend time with my girlfriend.
I recently had an interview with McAfee for a network security job and I am currently waiting to hear back from them.

I decided to sell my Porsche (that makes me sad), but I am currently not in a position to finance it's restoration. My friend who is buying it has a much better paying job and is able to pay for it's restoration. I decided it was better to have someone restore the car rather than let it sit in my yard and rust until it needed to be hauled away as junk.

daewoomofo ... if you see me on, by all means, say hi

Shaun - tell Tony that next time I come up that way, I'm going to lock him in the trunk of his own car. LOL

I let my domain name expire and some porn site grabbed it up so I no longer own it ... I had not gotten around to changing my link on here but I am doing that now.
