Differences between US standard Lanos & US Lanos sport?

Post by kinkyllama »

I'm sure this has been talked about before but I had no luck with the search. So if someone can let me know or give me a link to where this has been talked about before that'd be helpful.

I'm also curious about the tranny...doesn't the sport have different ratios? I've heard it called the close ratio. Providing I had the right info I found a couple of the gears to actually be longer than the standard lanos (wide ratio?)?

Thanks guys,
Danny

the inly performance difference is the 5 speed tranny. other than that its basicly just a lanos sx ("fully" loaded) with leather interior and a nice body kit.

heres a link to a tech spec on the woo trannies http://www.daewootech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9854

Thanks for the link, I've been looking for that post.

Is the body different other than the front bumper cover?

What are the interior differences other than the leather seats and quarter panels?

Basic/standard model had roll-up windows and black painted steel wheels.
Factory A/C, rear window heater ? I don't know.

Lanos Sport:

Dedicated Red or Black Paint Job
Different front bumper. (Some came equipped with fog lights, many not)
Different rear bumper. (Unpainted recess that's painted in the regular)
Sport Badging.
Different 5-Spoke Rims.
Full Leather interior (Seats, door panels, Steering wheel)
"Sport" embroidered floor mats
BLACK interior plastic (Regular Lanos is Gray, this includes dash, door panels, center console)
"Sport" Transmission
I don't know the gearing exactly, but the shift points are 1:25 / 2:50 / 3: 78 / 4: ~103 / 5: N/A

Thanks! I was wondering why I couldn't find a regular lanos in black.

I've seen a handful of red Sports all around Florida, and one black one near my house. I was almost certain that these are the only colors that they came in. I could be wrong though.

I've seen pictures of red and black regular Lanoses, mainly in the Orciari ads, but I bought my first Lanos at the Daewoo dealership, new, and they didn't have those colors. They must be fairly rare!

They seem extrmely close to the UK Nexia 5 speed F16 box. Actually, identical to it.

Maybe the Lanos Sport was fitted with the F16? Or at least the gears from one.

Is the F16 transmission any better than the D16?

F=cable and D=Hydraulic. That's the only different to my understanding.

Lol, then we definitely don't have the F16. We discussed this "Shift Point MPH" in another thread and the Lanos sport is considerably different than the other Lanoses. It's most likely upgraded gears.

Seems strange that a failing company would experiment with installing new gearing into mass-production models. It would make more sense to just pick another GM manual transmission from the lineup.

Are the part numbers for the two different? I'm pretty sure the transmission case is identical.

I've always liked my manual transmission. 1st is a little short...you end up shifting before you cross the intersection, second and third are excellent, very good for utilizing my nitrous setup, 4th is decent, as it allows enough torque to let you pass pretty well on high-speed interstates. 5th seems unnecessary! At 80 MPH I'm revving at about 4,000 RPM. Not much of an overdrive. But I still seem to get over 34 MPG on the highway.

I just think that I bought my car with broken engine/transmission mounts. When I get off the throttle and back on in gear, the shifter moves noticeably. But hey, thats what the summer is for! I can do stuff to my car again...

Only 17 days left of freshman year!
