Purchased my Optra 5 ( aka Lacetti ) back

Well, my friend that I sold my Optra 5 to this time last year decided that she wanted to buy a brand new Honda CRV.

They weren't going to give her much for the Optra 5 so I bought it back for $7000

Considering I sold it to her for $7000 last year plus her Lanos (my old Lanos) and she gave me a set of practically new winter tires I think I did very well on the deal.

So in exchange for her putting on 12,000km ( 7500 miles ) I got a low mileage Lanos (about 50K miles) and a brand new set of winter tires on rims.

I think I will keep it as a winter car.... haven't decided yet


Wow is it guttless!!!!!!!

I am spoiled driving around a "daily driver" that put 290lb ft to the ground bone stock...... I use to think the Optra was a fun little car with decent power and now.... I find myself thinking that I should get out and push with my leg!

It just feels odd.... the shifter is long and sloppy... the suspension sucks.... the clutch feels like it's not even there and I miss the sixth speed.

Well.... If I keep it... then I guess I will be forced to give it more power


I have the GSi on the road and it's nice and fast..... sounds really great as well.

I will hopefully be taking it to the track tommorow to see how she moves down the track..... I'm hoping for some nice numbers but at this point it's impossible to get traction in the first three gears and the suspension is less than ideal for drag racing. ( I'm sure it will be handfull to get down the track )

Unfortunatly Tom has a date tommorow so I will be all alone out there..... so I doubt that I will get any video unless I strap my camera to my helmet

Well.... it's really just me reclaiming the old Daewoo cars I use to own.... now I have my original Lanos back and my original Optra5 back.

That makes it :

2 scrap cars (hopefully going away soon )
- 90 pontiac lemans stripped for parts
- 87sunbird GT stripped for engine (C20GET)

3 non-running cars
- 89 pontiac lemans ( being stripped for use as a race car)
- 02 Daewoo Lanos ( 1.5L/1.6L hybrid has a bad oil pump... runs great... but ticks loudly due to 0psi oil pressure )
- 90 Passport Optima GSi ( C20GET engine in the process of upgrade )

3 running cars
- 07 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 ( daily driver for summer )
- 89 Passport Optima GSi ( fun car for racing and shows )
- 04 Chevrolet Optra 5 ( soon to be winter car? )

2 Sport Utility Vehicles
- 07 Mazda CX7 ( wife's vehicle )
- 98 Chevrolet 3/4 ton Suburban ( vehicle I use for work, towing stuff and launching boat at lake )

2 non-running trucks
- 83 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup ( my high performance V8 is now siezed ... plan to pull engine from other truck to put in this one )
- 86 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup ( finally have engine going with parts from my 83 chev )

1 running truck
- 02 Chevrolet 3/4 ton Pickup ( work truck, use for hauling water to lake, hauling dirt/sand/wood )


So that actually makes it 13 vehicles..... six of which are currently insured and driveable.

Am I crazy.... yes.... some people collect stamps... I collect vehicles.

its chris's used car lot folks. i know what you mean about the masda being a beast. a coworker of mine had a maxda 6 (non turbo) and that thing was damn fast for a stock car, i cant even imagine the turbo version..... thats cool that you got the optra back.

About those MazdaSpeeds.......... there are quite a few of them around my area, and alot of people have been having problems with the motors and turbos. Everything from seals going out on the turbos, to the high pressure fuel pump failing, to throwing rods through the block. Just yesterday my friends red speed3 destroyed its high pressure fuel pump that is driven off the camshaft. In doing that, it also destroyed the lobes on the end of the cam and the plunger piece that it pushes. About 2 hours after that happened, his friend with a white speed3 calls him and said it just threw a rod through the block on the highway! Both these cars are completely stock aside from downpipe and exhaust.
