well... found some russian website where they have some article about the Lanos... well at least that's what it looks like, but they call it a Daewoo Sens.
and instead of having the usual 1.3 sohc block... it has a 16valver!
just thought i'd share an interesting moment.
Cargo cultism is a beautiful thing as long as you never fall for it.
I may be wrong...but since the spark plugs go in from the front can it be dohc? I thought the spark plugs on a dohc engine had to go between the two cams. Otherwise they would have a really bad placement in the cylinder? Maybe the plastic cover over the engine is just elongated back to cover all the way to the intake manifold. Like I said I may be wrong...it just looks like a sohc head to me. Could it be a sohc cam 16 valve?
well it may be the case that i am wrong aswell... it could well be an 8v... altho it did look like a 16valver at first sight.
but considering the sparkplug placement... it probly is an 8v. but either way... it looks better than my 1.3 8v engine. a lot neater and tucked in, instead of wires, pipes etc showing all over the place.

I agree it does look good. I'm gonna try and research and see if a 1.3 dohc was ever made...or a sohc 16 valve...my dads geo tracker is a sohc but 16 valve...forgot about his car being 16 valve. maybe it's similar?
well... this look too different than the 1.3 and 1.5 SOHC... look at the ignition coil pack and how far the exhaust mani is from the spark plugs...also the radiator is much smaller and i can't see the MAP sensor
looking at more pics i found out that the MAP is installed on the mani itself, alternator is on the other side of the engine and far to the bottom and their is no PWS pump... still can't find the exhaust mani
Thanks, checked it out...Not for five hundred dollars though...and as much as i'm on the interstate they'd be shattered in a week. I guess I'll just try and make a custom setup...hmmmmm...gotta start drawing on this one
It's ordinary 1.3 8v engine MeMZ-307 (made in Ukraine by Melitopol Engine Factory, the same from Tavria)... And it's not Lanos - it's ZAZ Sens (cheaper version)
