it's a service that you can pay for where they look-up the history of the car. it tells you things like all the professional mechanic work done, all the insurance claims, any title problems, etc. it's a way to make sure you don't buy a crappy car

oic...i bpught mine brand new so non of that applied to me but i think the more expensice car dealership can do that for you... they dig out the VIN from their data base and tell you how good was that car serviced.

they give you a big packet of information. it includes the date and service done by any professional mechanic or service center (so for like a luxury car you can track oil changes). in the usa, when you have service done to your car, they record the mileage too. this way when someone does a check on teh car they can see if therea re any inconsistencies in the driving record (like if you had an oil change at 30,000 miles and then an accident at 27000 the next month... that's illegal to change the mileage back on the odometer).

it's just a nice little service that tells you all the known history of the car

Yeah... you input the vin # and it will give you a report on your car. Cost is about $20 USD ... Tells you about accidents, repairs... basically what Audacity said. :D

I did. Although it is not a perfect system, it is better than nothing.
