SATURN :Second Cousin

Post by SC-Xtc »

Hello people,
I recently discovered that in a way,
my Saturn is a second cousin (so to speek)
to a couple members of the Daewoo family.
Which is quite interesting, to be honest.
I kind of had a feeling about it, when I
noticed, similar sensors on Daewoos in the salvage yard.
I'm currently working on a project, using parts from a
Pontiac Sunbird turbo. And I found a few things that I liked
about the Daewoo motors that I really want to use.
I'm new to this forum, but I've found a 'lil info
that has been most helpfull.
Thanks to everyone involved in this forum.
If not for it's members I may not have found it.

I hope my stay here will be a welcomed one.

Welcome to the board!

I am not surprised you have found some similarities between Daewoo and Saturns. Both cars are using many components of the european GM - Opel. GM is even considering selling Opels in North America badged as Saturns.

Well I don't know of any parts that swap yet.
But I do know that the form of engine management is basicly the same.
When I looked over the Daewoo engine in the salvage yard,
I noticed that almost every sensor that my car uses is also
found on the Daewoo cars.
The same EGR valve, MAP sensor, and others. All are GM sensors.
So apperantly even from the begining GM had something to do with
Daewoo.
These same engine management peices are also found on Geo Storm/Isuzu Impulse, Saturn, and a few others as well.
I did notice that a '90 Pontiac Sunbird uses the same throttle body as
a Geo Storm only its a 50mm on the Sunbird and the Geo one is a 53mm.
Those using the Sunbird turbo parts could benefit from that.
Also if a throttle plate is obtaned from a Grand Am using the DOHC 2.3L or 2.4L , then the Geo throttl body can be bored to it's size which is 56mm.
Which would be great for a turbo aplication.

Anyway I'll keep searching and researching.
If anyone else has any info SHARE please.
