firefox..make it faster

holy crap.... just tried FIREFOX for the first time... and it was fast as crap..

then i found this little hack

this is a way to allow Mozilla's Firefox to download more then one file at a
time on a web page. Basically, allowing it to download the web page faster.
So just follow the steps below. Make sure you don't change anything
besides what I am telling you, this might result in messing up your firefox
settings.
Follow these steps:
First off, you have to be using Mozilla's Firefox in order to do this.

1. In the address bar, type about:config

2. a big list should come up, then find "network.http.pipelining"

3. Double click "network.http.pipelining" until it says true under value

4. Double click "network.http.proxy.pipelining" until it says true under value

5. Double click "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" and change the number to 30

6. Close the window and start browsing, enjoy

and now it goes like 10 times faster

Follow these steps:
First off, you have to be using Mozilla's Firefox in order to do this.

2. a big list should come up, right click anywhere Click New>integer

3. Type in "nglayout.initialpaint.delay"

4. Type in 0 for the number.

5. Close the window and start browsing, enj

Just installed the newest Firefox on my friend's computer who has cable modem. I removed Mozilla prior to the instalation.
This thing is a LOT faster than it was before!

Can I run both IE and FIREFOX at the same time or do I have to delete one?

I have cable, but I'd really like a faster web browser.

BTW:Will it work in Linux or Windows?

Firefox has it's problems (very few) ... so i keep IE around.. made FF my default.... only use IE when needed... Firefox will make your cable seem faster and make u less succeptable to spyware and viruses!

It is another web browser, based on Mozilla, which is the same thing Netscape is based on.

You do not have to get rid of Internet Explorer and can use them both if you like.

I prefer Firefox over IE because it is the same when I use it on Windows, Linux, Zeta, BeOS and Solaris (unix).

It is freeware and does not get bothered by a lot of the bugs, spyware and browser hijacking that IE does.

Even without tweaking it with these setting changes, it is still faster than IE.

I just did a side by side comparison. I loaded http://www.cardomain.com with both IE and FF (not at the same time lol) and FF is quite a bit faster just by itself and with WooHoo's tweaks.

I've never even heard of it before today!

Firefox: I started using it about half a year ago...and I have noticed a lot less spyware when I scan the comp. It is really good. You may also want to use "Thunderbird" for email. It is faster when uploading and downloading messages for me.http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

Plus like OZ said it is the same on different OS setups. I use XP Pro SP2 and Debian Linux. Thanks for the tips WooHoo they have seemed to help. I use SBC DSL Pro package(comparable to a good cable speed) but I have noticed a difference.
